I think the only difference is that boy shorts are a little more boyish looking than booty shorts. I mean, they have a kind of athletic look to them (lot's of times they are made out of a jogging shirt type of material), while booty shorts are practically the same thing, they just have a more girlish look to them.

Second, the answer. Boyshorts are a form of underwear, while "booty shorts" is a slang word for shorts that are so short as to show the woman's buttcheeks.
