Are there certain times of the year when engagement rings are likely to go on sale?

Not a specific time of year...but buying it right now while we are in a war will mean you will spend more money. The price of gold has gone up 50% since we went to war. Jewelry costs have skyrocketed in the last year alone.

Don't listen to the superficial people telloing you not to be cheap. My husband and I looked around for a while prior to deciding on a ring, and we even waited a week to order it cause we knew there was a sale the following. Why in the world pay full price when we got 25% off the next week?!? Look around and see what's going on. Take a walk thru your local mall, visit the small family-style jeweler's, and see what you can find. Many places carry the same styles for different prices. Just do some homework and Congratulations on your engagement to be!!

I've never really heard of engagement rings going on sale. I've seen those brochures from the newspaper that show special offers on certain styles, but I don't think there is a time of year that rings go on sale. If I had to guess it seems like a lot of people get engaged in the spring.

I don't know if it can be said at one specific time of year. My ring came from zales... along with our wedding rings. I don't know what he paid for the engagement ring, but we both got the wedding bands for 50 % off. They are both half carat diamond bands with a lifetime diamond bond. Check them out. Their jewelry is of excellent quality. My husband said my engagement ring appraised way higher than the amount he actually paid for it. I love it! Hope this helps.
Oh, they have a sale going on right now... an extra ten percent off... and there are some nice rings in the sale!

There is really no better time to buy a ring than another. You need to make sure that you shop around for the best deal. I would suggest taking into account what kind of warranty or guarantee you get with the ring you purchase as part of the value of the ring. Personally, if you have one in your area, I would suggest Shane Co. They are very reasonably priced and seem to have the best guarantee in the market, well at least in Minnesota. I recommend avoiding holidays to purchase your ring because sometimes retailers inflate their prices and then reduce them and call it a sale when it is really not, and I have seen sale prices more expensive than the regular price at times. Good luck to you, take your time and shop around.

Engagements shouldn't be based on when the rings are cheapest.

Anytime an engagement ring is cheaper than the rest, there's a reason. You get a ring cheap, you got a cheap ring.

Get as nice a REAL diamond ring as you can without causing financial hardship. No, very few people go by that "3 months salary" guideline either. A diamond doesn't have to be big to be the best selection.

Your small Mom and Pop Jewelers will generally be much more helpful to you in making the right selection, and many times with them the price is more negotiable.

Hey Kevin, congrats on wanting to take the plunge!

As for getting your ring a bit cheaper, do you have any connections? Check with friends and family and see if anyone knows a jeweler or has any loose diamonds or old jewelry you could have made into a ring. When my brother got engaged his fiancee's ring was made with a stone from one of our great-grandmother's cocktail rings that my mother had in her jewelry box. She never wore it, we kept it for sentimental reasons and she felt that having something so special made from the stones was a great idea. Eventually we used the other diamonds in the ring for earrings and pendants for the girls in the family as well. It'sa great way to really be connected to your jewelry and it saves you the cost of the stone.

Another friend who just got engaged went to a local jewelry store with his buddy. His buddy happened to be dating the neice of the store owner and got a giant price cut on a gorgeous ring via the "family discount" route.

Another route would be a private jeweler. My family has a personal jeweler who makes custom pieces. You get a custom piece at a decent price and amazing quality. For a private jeweler you;ll have to either ask around or check your local phone listings.

I don't think you're being cheap, I think you're being responsible. Good luck!!!

people get engaged at all times of the year, so rings are usually on sale all times of the year, some a little more on sale that other times. Every once in a while just stop in at the store and see what the price is,...also ask the sales ppl, they usually know when something goes on sale or if they have a huge 'sale' coming up.

You should save your money all of the time, whether it be for the ring or other things. The rule of thumb is that you should spend at least 2 months salary on an engagement ring.

Most jewelry stores and stores with jewelry departments will have random sales throughout the year, you just have to keep an eye out for fliers in the newspaper. The one time that they usually have huge sales is when they hold their Anniversary celebration.

For the ring, I would start saving now and just keep your eyes open for sales.

Good luck!

I was told diamond prices go up after the New Year.

I am not sure if it was true or not and this was buying a loose diamond and not a ring.
