I have used two methods and both have worked. One is to keep a metal coffee can containing a few coins nearby and anytime your cat goes for the sofa, shake the can nearby. They are startled by the noise and eventually will associate it with the behavior and stop. A spray bottle full of water is another good harmless way to discourage a cat. Declawing works but is expensive and some people think it is cruel.

Cats hate the scent of citrus, so in case you have been to spray something lemony on the settee, the cat will evade it. on the different hand, you ought to maintain a sprig bottle packed with water close to you and spritz him/her each and every time she starts scratching the settee, yet that basically works once you're around and may be able to no longer end the habit completely. I have no thought the way you may restoration the settee, yet whilst to procure it at the instant, you ought to objective calling the furnishings save and soliciting for a suggestion.

DON'T DE-CLAW. its mean and inhumane, give your cat a scratching post, if it doesn't take, rub a little catnip on it every now and then till it gets used to it w/o the catnip. if it comes down to de-clawing just give the cat to someone who isn't evil and tortures animals by removing their only natural defense
