Simple enough you'd think.... "the consumption of hot food at your desk is now prohibited. Tea, coffee, & other hot beverages are allowed", so, can we drink hot soup ? What would you class it as, a hot snack or a hot beverage ? The fate of workplace harmony rests in your hands, please vote now : )

Soup - the first food. If it can't have a lid it should not be in your work space........then there is that soup with a lid....there goes that theory

Why is it prohibited? The question is not if hot soup is a beverage the question is what can we get away with. I think if you put the soup in a cup and slurp it instead of using a spoon then you will probably get away with it. But if you have a fancy bowel at your desk and you using a spoon then someone is going to say something.

Soups are really classified as food more than beverages.

Campbell's sells their "Soup-At-Hand", which consists of soups that come in a container that is easy to "drink" from. I think most of the soups on the "Soup-At-Hand" line consist of very small chunks of meats and veggies, or are soups already drinkable, like tomato soup and your "cream of something" soups.

Tomato soup looks almost like V-8, if you drink it from a regular glass or cup. Just don't add crackers to it.

You can also heat up some chicken broth, add a few spices and voila, instant chicken soup, minus the chicken, veggies, or anything else.

Although it would be wise to follow the guidelines and eat your soup in the employee break room or any other designated areas.

If it can be consumed without the use of a spoon, it can be classified as a hot beverage. I would still classify it as a hot food. You could always eat gazpacho (that is cold soup).

lol. Well I consider soup a food, however in your situation I would say it's beverage due to a technicality.

coffee machines have tomato soup amongst their choice.

So I would guess that makes it a hot beverage.

And where the hell do you work dude? WHo is that tyrant that stops you from eating at your desk and actually gives you an axcuse for moving out to the nearst snackbar? (lols)

Technically it's a food. But I'd think that if you hid a thin soup in a travel sippy mug and drank it, nobody would notice as long as you weren't chewing or using a spoon.

I would class it as a drink but soup stinks the place out so it may be banned purely for that reason.

Only hot cream soups or broth.... no chunks.

But sounds like you can get a 6-foot sub delivered, as long as it's cold.
