ARD can go on for years and did with me. only a change of life style with much less tension finally changed the problem. A mild form still crops up very rarely. Hypertension was the culprit in my case. The prilosec does work. but... beware of the side effects. The primary long term problem is the complete depletion of calcium in the body. Bones become brittle and are easily broken. personally my posture has suffered. and I certainly don't want to turn into a stooped old man. Take heavy calcium supplements on a daily basis as long as you are on the prilo. My radical change came as I realized that I was basically going to die if I didn't get out of the pressure cooker that my life had become. I sold off everything and went around the world. I settled in Vietnam in a wonderful city called Hoian. I am still amazed by the quality of life here. I no longer have ARD and the chest pains and heart burn are a thing of the past. I realize that everyone can't take such a radical step. But you better decide which is more important. The stuff and the high pressure job or your life. Good luck and hope you feel better. PS. have a great routine now. I am sleeping 8 uninterrupted hours a night without any medication. I feel like a different person and I am a hell of a lot happier. so it goes.

This is a natural program that you can try to cure your acid reflux http://acidreflux.toptips.org

Acid reflux disease, also known as gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), occurs due to the coexistence of several medical and lifestyle conditions. Physiological factors that trigger GERD include lower esophageal sphincter (LES) hypotonia (the gradual weakening of the LES), along with retrograde flow of stomach contents into the esophagus, and the level of sensitivity of the esophageal mucus to the reflux content.

If untreated, can lead to serious complications...ulcers, bleeding from the lining of the stomach and esophagus, narrowing of the esophagus, and Barrett's esophagus: a change in the cellular makeup of the esophagus that increases the risk of esophageal cancer.

I don't know, but why risk it? ARD leads to cancer and this is a very bad way to die.

I'm sure your 'answer' depends on the individual and severity of the disease. Please see a doctor, and if doc A can't help you, go to Doc B. Demand a specialists.

Good Luck and God Bless

See a gastrointerologist. It can erode your esophagus so the sooner the better on getting checked.
