You should not "go on a diet". Your diet what you eat regularly, every day. Do some research. Go to the bookstore and ask where you can find books on nutrition. When you learn about eating the right foods and the right amounts, you will lose weight, never be hungery, and feel great. And don't worry about having to eat only bland health foods. Most of these books have great, healthy recipies.
One of the best things to learn is how to read the label on food packages. Learn what is good for you. Eat foods that are fresh. Find out what is added to your foods.
DO NOT BUY DIET PRODUCTS. Most my help you lose weight, but in a unhealthy way. Diet soda actually makes you gain weight. Learn the facts

This is what I did for three months and felt really good - lost weight and gained muscle. Keep in mind, though that you will gain a lot of muscle in your upper body with this regime. Cut down on the push-ups if you need.
Monday-Friday I would do the following in the morning before work:
1. 2 mile run
2. 3 sets of 25 push-ups (man-style on one foot)
3. 3 sets of 35 sit-ups (not crunches, but the actual sit-ups where your elbows touch your knees)
I ate a well-balanced diet. I had three meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner. I also ate a healthy snack between the two meals.
Breakfast was a whole-grain cereal like Cheerios or some Oatmeal, fruit and a large glass of water.
Lunch was a salad and a half sandwich or soup. Dinner was sensible and light. Fresh vegetables and wheat pasta, stir-fry, black beans and rice, or another large salad.
(I'm a vegetarian and that's why you don't see any meat....add your meat, but make sure they are lean cuts of it. Also make sure it's been baked, boiled, broiled or grilled. No fried meat. If I were you, I'd avoid red meat as much as possible. Stick to chicken and fish. If you like Salmon, it's a good source of Omega-3 fatty acid, which is a big aid in weight loss. But don't eat it too often. When you do buy it, make sure it's wild).
I hope this helps. Good luck!

I've followed the same plan after both my pregnancies (the last baby being born 5 months ago) and it's taken me 3 months to lose all the weight following a sensible program.
Eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. Breakfast could be: one starch (wholemeal toast, oatmeal, 1 waffle, 1 pancake, bowl of cereal) - one protein (egg, milk, yogurt) - and one fruit. ( I always start my day with coffee - so that's a given.) Midmorning snack could be fruit, yogurt, pretzels, cheese and crackers, fruit bar, nuts & raisins, smoothie, cereal...etc. Just try to keep it sensible - you know, wholemeal, low(er) fat, not super huge portions. Lunch again is a starch/protein/vegetable or fruit. So think of things like a lean sandwich (ham or turkey or cheese - but keep it all minimal) and lettuce, tomato...etc. on wholemeal bread. Or one of those Amy's burritos or you can make your own - one tortilla, 1/2 cup refried beans, some salsa and a little bit of cheese and nuke it. Have with a green salad. Afternoon snack is the same as above... just improvise. Try to get some calcium in there - yogurt, cheese, some milk and animal crackers. You want to give your body fuel. Dinner is the same - Starch/Protein/Veggie/Fruit. So baked chicken with small potato and salad. Or veggie pasta with fruit salad. Or lentils and brown rice and broccoli.
The most important thing is getting some exercise in there. I try and do cardio 3x a week and weight training or swimming 2x a week. You don't need to go nuts - just 30 minutes (or more) of cardio and some sit ups on your cardio days and arms one day (with weights or just resistance) and legs another (lunges and that horrible stuff!)
Some BIG tips.... try and stay off the booze for the time you want to lose the weight. Drink as much water as possible for all drinks (no soda, diet soda). Once you lose the weight sensibly your body won't crave the horrible stuff so much and if you do - it's okay to indulge. The nice thing about losing weight this way is it doesn't seem like such a burden. It might not come off overnight - but it will come off and STAY off! Good luck!

I don't have "a plan", but I have learned a few things that have worked for me lately. 1. Cut out soda, especially diet soda. Reason: I discovered the hard way that something in diet soda makes my appetite go absolutely insane; a single diet soda, for some unknown reason, makes me ravenous for nearly 3 days. The phosphates in soda also lead to significantly less calcium absorption, and can be a factor in osteoporosis later. Bad news all the way around. Try iced tea (with pink packets of sweetner, if desired, instead) especially green tea instead. Green tea gives you that caffeine boost and also contains a curious compound nicknamed "EGCG" (epigallocatechin gallate), which is proven to help trim a few pounds for most people. 2. Use extra virgin coconut oil to help tame your sweet/snack tooth. Reason: I know that it probably sounds counter-intuitive to use a straight vegetable fat product like extra virgin coconut oil in a weight loss effort, but IT WORKS! A 1/2 Tablespoon of E.V. coconut oil a day, morning and evening REALLY helps me keep my sweet tooth/high-fat snack madness under wraps. One Tablespoon total a day of E.V. coconut oil has about 120 calories(or 60 calories per each 1/2 Tablespoon morning and evening.) --- sounds like a lot of "spent" calories on a diet, right? However, compare that to the average candy bar, bag of chips, and/ a couple large cookies and/or a 20 oz. soda that constitute a lot of average daily snack attack binges. Also, other perks, the coconut oil will help boost your thyroid function, and warm you up some if you find you are one of those "always cold" people, and keeps your energy level up quite well. 3. If you can manage it, keep your healthy snacks 3-4 times a day, but cut out ONE "big" meal. For instance, I'm not much of a EARLY breakfast person, I would rather have a snack first thing in the morning with my coffee or tea and then indulge in a bigger NICE brunch later in the morning. That means, I also do a snack or a cup of soup, instead of the typical lunch sandwich and side dishes at lunchtime, and then I'm ready to have myself an EARLY dinner between 4-5 p.m. This cuts ONE BIG meal and assures that, if I do want or need to eat something after 8 p.m. or before bedtime, I usually only need something like a 4oz High-calcium cottage cheese (protein) and a little vegetable juice or half-a-banana or other fruit with the cottage cheese snack before bed. I have lost 14 lbs. so far doing following these few steps.

Eat lots and lots of veggies and fruits, some protein and some healthy carbs like oat bran bread, etc. Try to eat as little as sugar possible. Drink lots and lots of water. You should lose 20 pounds in 4-8 weeks.
Exercise - Just moving the body is good instead of sitting in front of a computer and t.v. all day. You want to do stretches, walking around the block, anything that gets your blood circulating and moving. I use one of those mini trampolines so I can "walk" and watch the news at the same time.
For toning and sculpting, you must do something like pilates, or sit-ups, etc. I must admit that I am a bit soft because I do not like doing these kinds of things.
