Because we want this site to be one that does not offend anyone. I know that's not really possible, that some people are way too sensitive, but it's a standard we set: say things in a polite way or don't say them.
By the way, I appreciate that you say "You are fooling yourself," rather than "You are a fool." Nice touch.

I am offended if people say something applies to me and it doesn't apply to me. I do not like being applied to with the same brush as everyone else, especially when some should be applied with it, but the majority should remain unapplied, but for the bad name we have been given by the fundamentalist few.

i'm offended by child abuse although I have (thankfully) never experienced it
i'm offended by war altough i've never been a part of one
i'm offended by muder although i've (obviously) never been murdered
I get offended and will voice my opinions when I feel something is happening to some people that i think is wrong, whether it directly affects me or not but that doesn't mean that I don't want people to voice their opinions. There is nothing to say that my views are correct and all others are wrong.
