Because we're right.

Religion is based on emotional attachment to an idea, not reason or evidence. Therefore, a position that uses reason and evidence is threatening to religions. That is why religions strongly discourage listening to those with different viewpoints.

There is a lot of evidence that each religion has a very human history and each god is man-made. You can look into their histories to see that. You can also look at the claims made about their gods and see how it doesn't match up to existing evidence. And you can also see much evidence of how people create myths, superstitions, and urban legends and strongly believe they're true.

However, you'll find no real evidence for the existence of any gods.

I think that, deep down, they realize this and are threatened by it, because they really really want to believe that their god is real.

I'm not. As far as I know it is a choice. Whether one claims to be more logical than another or not. Some people who are claiming to be "Christians", really need to look at their answers. The bible says Love your enemy's. Really, it is different "Christians" and religions who threaten each other. There may be a few atheists who are violent toward "Christians". I have yet to meet them. I would think if they are violent. It is because certain people won't stop trying to convert them. Jesus did not push the truth on anyone. The pharisees questioned him and tried to discredit him. He just told them like it was/is. If you don't believe in the bible. Are you on this sight to poke fun of? We are all different. We have different opinions/beliefs. Personally, I know if I lived like atheists I would have a lot more pleasure in my life. I also don't believe in eternal torment. However, I do believe in the bible. I do not live a "perfect" life. The bible says if any man says there is no sin in him, he is a liar and God is not in him. I thank God he is my judge, not anyone else. If you think I'm wrong. We will see. Meantime I see nothing wrong with living my life the best I can to bible standards. I talk to people who either ask questions like this or are genuinely interested.

They depend totally on faith. If the slightest doubt creeps into their thinking then their brains will start working. That would lead to the total collapse of their belief system. This is the same as suffering a major mental break down for them. When the say that they regard not having faith as being lost they are actually expressing their fears accurately

Yeah it is true that Christians fear death. But doesn't everyone fear death? Including athiests? Course they bloody do, otherwise the pharmaceutical/health care industry would be out of business.

To answer your question, I don't feel threatened by athiests. The only time they bother me if they try to shove their views down my throat. I never do that to anyone, because I don't like it when it's done to me.

If you believe your truth is the only truth there is, which seems to be the case for monotheists, then anyone who can simply reject it and not suffer terrible consequences constitutes a threat to your sense of being right.

I was a Christian when I was young, but I was always aware that it was mostly because I was afraid of punishment (I mean burn forever?!?!). It was very hard for me to accept that some people just did not believe the threat and were not frightened by it. Finally I met someone who said, "If God is that sort of bully, why do you worship him? Why not fight against him?" Takes courage, you see, but he was right.

because we are dirty heathens that 'want to impose our lifestyles' on them, one minister said that 'homosexuals have done it in america' im sure they all force you to have sex with them. think about it, if you believe something comfortable and some one comes along with an uncomfortable idea, and it leaves a nagging grain of doubt then its hard not to see it, they may have seen people come out and say, i am an atheist in there own families, and feel it could happen to anyone even with 'the right up bringing' so yea its not nice, but the truth can be an ugly beastie

Not threatened at all by atheists. the only thing that bothers me is that they try to eliminate the practice of religious freedom.
Why do the atheists feel so threatened by my religious faith?
About 'beacons of light, science and reason'. LOL, sounds like a religious statement to me.
Science and reason are TOOLS, nothing more. I will NOT prostrate myself before the alter of technology. TOOLS, nothing more.
I would hope when you say science, you do not mean evolution. No science involved there. Just another religion to me.

Pst: AD-->goes 1 way, unto the END declared & written

That God is light(only) declared the END from the begin:
Let there be LIGHT(ONLY), not lights, nor light + darkness

The Bible objective is NOT to believe, but rather to "know".
Devils "believe": James 2:19. So believe not: Mt 24; 1Jn4.
Know-ing the truth makes YOU free of Believe-ing the lies.

Grace neither tempts(laws) nor can be tempted(lawed).
Grace can't lie(law) nor die(law). Law Law does both.

The law (surely die lie) was given by Moses,
but grace and "truth" came by Jesus Christ.

It's as disastrous to win a sides war as it is to lose one.
All blame game players get inducted to a hall of shame.
Being right to make others wring, if we're all one? Hello!
Both law of law vs law & grace of law vs grace are faulty;
For both give place to law, a "surely die" law in Gen 2:17.
Above such childish sides wars is light(only): grace(only).

The GRACE(ONLY) of our Lord J->C with you->all. Amen.

A good number of christians can't explain why they believe.

When confronted with facts, they go into attack mode and quote bible passages which mean nothing to me as an atheist.

They fear we know the TRUTH which in their subconscious mind they know is the correct thing but are too scared to discuss.

They are deluged and won't change.
