In the Bible, if you "name" something, it indicates that you have authority over that "thing".
Adam was named by God. His name means "Reddish", probably based on the color of the dust or clay used to form his body. It is also used multiple times as the generic word for "man" or "mankind". It shows that God had authority over Adam.
Eve was named by Adam after the fall of man. Her name means "Mother of All Living" because she would be the mother of the rest of the human race. It shows that after the fall Adam took authority over her.

whoever wrote that particular chapter at that time. however, the concept of adam and eve is still poorly understood by most religious people due to the doctrine of the church. adam and eve stands for "man", the human race, all of us.

God.
(Ad′am) Earthling Man; Mankind; Humankind; from a root meaning “red”.
The Hebrew word occurs as “man,” “mankind,” or “earthling man” over 560 times in the Scriptures and is applied to individuals and mankind in general. It is also used as a proper name.
God said: “Let us make man (Adam) in our image.” (Ge 1:26)
(Eve) Living One; apparently related to the Heb. verb cha·yah′, “live”.
The first woman and the last reported of God’s earthly creative works. God had a deep sleep fall upon Adam, removed a rib from his side, and after having closed up the flesh, built the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman. No doubt knowing by direct revelation from God his Creator and Father how the woman came into existence, Adam was pleased to accept her as his wife, saying: “This is at last bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”. As his complement Adam called his wife ’ish·shah′ (woman, or, literally, female man), “because from man this one was taken.” (Ge 2:18-23)
So God must have called her Eve.

Hello and for this answer the bible is a must, but first let me present some background for my answer, in Heb.13:8 we read Jesus has always been for all of time past and all of time past, in John 8:58 Jesus is called The I AM of Exodus 3, Moses and the burning bush and in fact in Heb.1:5-9 The Father Himself address Jesus as God, SO in John 1 we read it was Jesus Himself that was the active member of The Godhead that was the one that created mankind and it was Indeed HE Jesus that did that, www.itiswritten.com God bless.
