This one is a freebie. You don't give gifts at an engagement party.

I wouldn't bring a gift to an engagement party. Here's the thing, most people don't know what an engagement party really is. An engagement party is supposed to be the affair when your engagement is announced to your friends and family (except for your immediate family who should already know). Most people have started using an engagement party as an excuse for gifts since everyone invited already knows, which is just tacky. You don't have an engagement party if everyone already know your engaged. Traditionally the bride's parents host an engagement party. The bride's mother sends out invites to a dinner party or barbeque or luncheon, whatever type of party it's going to be. The bride's father announces the engagement at some point during the beginning of the party.

Even though they are living together there are always some things that you can never have enough of. You could buy them a really nice picture frame that has two slots on it and take a picture of the two of them now engaged to insert in one side and then when they get married they could insert one of their wedding pictures (or a picture that you took at the wedding) in the other side. A nice prayer plaque about getting married and marriage is good. A nice bottle of Champagne or Wine to toast the newly engaged couple or some things that you know interest them (i.e. if they are drinkers, some mixes and glasses to go with it, if they play golf, nice golf shirts, or monogrammed golf balls, etc.). You could maybe even get them a gift card/certificate to their favorite restaurant.

You don't have to spend a whole lot for the engagement part, Bridal Shower and Wedding are the important ones to spend the money on.

You don't have to buy any gifts for an engagement party as it's only meant to be a get-together to celebrate. If you want to get something, buy a card and a bottle of wine. Or, if you're close friends, buy something wedding-related - I got my best friend a wedding planning book (it had tips and insert pages to keep business cards, written plans, etc) and she used it all throughout her engagement. Also, now she has a memento that she keeps reminding her of all the things she did during her engagement.

You aren't really supposed to bring anything to an engagement party but if you did want to bring something you could bring a nice photo album that they could use for engagement pictures or wedding pictures when the time comes. Or you could go to a book store and get a book about wedding planning that they will probably find useful. There is always the option of bringing a nice bottle of something whether it be whiskey, wine, etc...

No gifts are required for an engagement party - it's just a casual time for people to get together. If you truly don't want to go empty-handed, then take a nice bottle of wine. The gifts you need to buy would come for the shower and wedding itself.

Well, I don't know how much you're willing to spend on them but here are a few ideas...

1.Buy 2 tickets for them to go to a theme/water park, movie, play, hotel, train ride,or a sports game.

2.Get them a(few) movie(s) or CD(s).

3.Take them out to eat on your account.

it will be great if you know what inteersts him, i.e.

if he likes video games, buy him PSP... if he likes music, get him an ipod nano or something....

if he likes a favourite movie, give him a dvd for the movie with a big poster for it

those gifts even if owned by him, it will mean alot...

trust me and GOOD LUCK sweetie
