I know the whole John 3:16 thing.

This 'eternal life' concept seems to be the main reason that most of you are Christians in the first place. You want to live forever, seated at God's holy buffet table after you die.

...but why? What is so appealing about living forever? For starters, there is absolutely no proof whatsoever of this concept. Furthermore, wouldn't you grow bored? You would eventually reach a point where you could attain all knowledge... and then what? What use does God have with you for an eternity?

I guess what I want to know is what is so appealing about existing forever after you die.

None of you Christians are answering my question.

You're basically saying that eternal life is appealing because it's 'eternal'. I know what the word means, 'kay?

Please answer the question as it was asked... your intelligence is telling on you.

Furthermore, eternal life IS a concept. It is not 'truth', as there is no evidence or proof to support that it is actually a fact.

...and you know it.

taco_man presents an excellent point.

Aren't we taught that things with value are those things that we know will not last forever? Personally, I think that giving less credence and value to your current life (by attempting to pander to a dictator god) in favor of an unproven afterlife is a waste.

Again, I reiterate this. Why do you want to live forever?

because the idea of NOT existing for the rest of eternity scares the crap out of people. thinking that you just cease to exist and everything you lived for is gone and forgotten isn't nearly as pleasing as Heaven. its human nature to try and explain away the things we fear and dont understand.

I think it would be rather boring really, to have to sit around some throne worshiping some god who wants sycophantic followers singing Holy, Holy, Holy how disastrous can you get. The whole concept is so totally illogical. I guess it came from an age where there was so much oppression of those who had nothing that it was better to tell them that there was a better life than this one after you die. Mind you the ones that were telling them that were probably eating off gold plates and throwing good food to dogs. Maybe one day people will wake up and smell the flowers. I can't wait until they find some kind of life form on another planet what will they say then??

one thing I've learned is not to judge my future by my present. That is I have no idea how things will be, how I will feel about them, what I will know or even if my perceptions of things will be the same. What happens is we go along being the same and we tend to get stuck there and project our take on things on to others. But we can break out of that into a place that is not sucked into the eternal circling of the drain that most of humanity is doing. This world just wears you down. Make money, feel important, and have no clue. That kind of lackluster attitude makes you old and when the bravado of youth wears off and sickness starts moving in, you start to look forwards to dying. But.....look at the children, they have a sense of wonder, they are not beaten down yet, not assimilated into a dead, lifeless society. Sorry to be so harsh, but real life compared with 'normal' life is not the same.

I'll know when i get there. For now its being great

As a christian i dont get nearly as hang up on the ethernal life in heaven thing as some of my christian friends (not that i'm not tankful for it, i am), still the stuff we got to do is here and now, as a christian i believe that my ethernal life has already started, and as i said, im really really liking my new life.
As for what happens later, you got me, i don't know, and therefore i wont know whats so great about it (im sure it must be great to)

I think that we are so incrusted in this falible human form that we can't grasp the concept of being ethernal and leading a whole different kind of existence.

Dear Brother,

Whats so great about being eith the creator of the universe forever? Everything! Living with God and learning from him, why that would be one of the greatest privalages ever given!.

Living together forever in paradise, with fellowship love and peace, with God and his son. that is what is so appealing!

And as for the second part of your question, The Bible answers it very well!

Romans 8:24
For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has?

Hebrews 11:1
[ By Faith ] Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

I am certain that these things exist, because the spirit he caused to live in me confirms it!

God Bless.

"Who wouldn't want to live forever in eternal bliss with the Lord?"

It sounds stuffy and boring to me. Everyone being good, no dirty jokes or sex. Hanging out with Jerry Falwell.

All good things end. I'm ok with that.

You know, I've always wondered about that. I mean, I'm only 60, and here I am fighting boredom. I mean, right here, in front of this computer. Imagine what it would be like to live forever and you've already seen all your DVDs countless times . . . no, thanks! I just want to live long enough (or rather often enough) to get it right, then become one with the cosmos and get some rest.

First of all, it's not a concept....it is truth. Everyone will live forever....it's just a matter of where: Either heaven with Christ...or hell without Him.

What's so great about it?

Question should be....Who wouldn't want to live forever in eternal bliss with the Lord?

Well I don't exactly know but I will be finding out.
And.... eternal life is not a concept.
And... it beats the alternative
And... we get to be with Jesus/God and the Holy spirit who have guided my life since a little girl... I can't wait to meet them!
