i have had an interest of working for a federal agency but people tell me its not worth it, its a hard job, you get paid nothing, if you have a family you will never see them. is all this true?

No. But it depends on what agency you work for. Your assured your pension when you retire. If the United States went broke we would all be up the creek! Also you need to know what GS (Government Service) you are starting at. Like a GS-7, and you continue to advance. I have a friend that is a GS-14 and he makes some pretty good bucks.

All civil service jobs pay less then they should. However the employment is steady, and the work is usually not too strenuous. The benefits are the main thing, and they are very good. With employment so difficult to find, try the job, if it isn't a "good fit", you can always move on.

You are paid your worth so don't listen to others. Getting a job isn't easy these days so don't waste the opportunity. I suggest you watch your spending and everything should be fine.

I am retired from the US Postal Service. During my tenure, I made a good living and the benefits were ourstanding; i.e. sick leave, vacation, retirement. The job wasn't any harder than any other, and easier than most.
