mm- a tattoo can be a and is a personal thing..
What i mean is really anything can be the sort of tattoo you wish to have..
I know of someone who has a beautiful dragonfly flying over a sunset.. it is a tattoo to remind him of his son who died..
ANother person i have seen who has a lovely piece of art transformed into a tattoo - it was a lady - with flowers - can't think of artist - but it was to represent her survival from cancer..
So what i am tryingt o say - the tattoo you chose can really be anything - flowers, graphic art, animals..
Maybe a tiger to represent strenght taken to overcome (as you said) on a bed of rose petals (for the new you - the softeness) - something like that..
Good luck

RE:
I need a good idea for an eating disorder tattoo?
I have completely recovered from anorexia. It took over my life a few years ago. It's the single most important defeat of my entire life - so far. I really want to put something on my body that reminds me of what I was able to overcome. I am very lucky, must people cannot beat an eating...

generally people who have had eating disorders and been treated for them usually- through treatment/psycho-therapy/counseling- discover, and cling to, a symbol or theme that represents who they were, the journey they have taken, and/or who they are now. this is a technique that all the body disorder counslers i know use and highly recommend.
why dont you take your personal symbol and incorporate that into a beautiful custom tattoo.
if you can't think of anything that is specific to you and your path, then what about playing off things that you had your biggest issues with: a broken handmirror (which would be beautiful translated into a tattoo), falling glass beads, a metemorphisis tattoo could also be very touching if you take it beyond the normal overdone butterfly tattoo.

Wow! I think it is amazing that you got over an eating disorder! Good for you! It takes strength and will! I think for the tattoo though you should have a Chinese symbol to represent strength, or overcoming darkness or something like that. People will ask what it means and you can tell them what and why! it really can represent someone in a pretty way.

You know the breast cancer ribbons? They have ones for eating disorders too. You could get a tattoo of that. Just look up the colors because I forgot. Or if you didn't want to be so blunt about it & just want to symbolize it, you could get a cage with birds flying out. (You're not trapped anymore) look up pictures of what I'm talking aboutt. :)

Congratulations on your recovery! I would look for something that strikes you in a way that you are reminded of what you have overcome. I can't give you ideas because I don't know you and I don't know what your struggle has been like. But, I would think back to something that helped you fight your disorder.

Actually, I went through the exact same process.
I think a tattoo should be exceedingly personal, so I hope you put a lot of thought into this -- a LOT of thought in to this, but this is what I had done.
I had the characters for "beautiful" and "woman" (which I consulted with a college professor to make sure I had them correct!") on my hip bones. When ill, I judged my weight by how much my hip bones stuck out, and during recovery I judged how much better I became by my hip bones becoming covered up. So putting "beautiful" and "woman" on the bosy parts that played such a part in my life meant a lot for me.
Also, perhaps look into something that symbolize strength.

I did some researching and I didnt come up with anything that really represents anorexia or eating disorders. How about a flower or something that you really think is beautiful since the whole time you were suffering from it, you didnt say the beauty in you. IDK just an idea. Glad you beat it.
