I live in the UK (Canterbury) and I have never been skiing/snowboarding or anything like that and I’m planning a ski trip in Vermont next year with my dad, he lives in New York.

We are going to rent ski’s and any other equipment but apart from that I don’t have a clue. What clothes do I need to buy? How much do I need to budget for them? I was thinking around £300 per person. Where is the best place to buy ski clothes on the high-street or the Internet? Additionally if anyone knows the best outlets for New York / US that would be a bonus.

Thank you very much to anyone that can point me in the right direction.

Go to TK Max. You can get decent gear by quicksilver, o'neil etc. that is dirt cheap. Like jacket that was £150. for £30. You could get a decent hat and gloves in the resort if you can't find them there or you could try Snow & Rock but they are top-dollar. Have fun you lucky - lucky git!

Cotswold Outdoor: http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/servlets/SearchResult?item_index=0&item_display_length=30

Snow and Rock http://www.snowandrock.com/shop/activity/ski/clothing

Mountain Warehouse: http://mountainwarehouse.com/shop/search_result.php?desc=1&keywords=ski&x=0&y=0

I'm sure in your nearest town/city there will be plenty of shops which stock ski clothing, however it is not Ski/Snowboard season so you may struggle to find stock at this time of the year as most of it is gone through huge end of season sales.

Also eBay is always a nice place to have a look.

Have fun skiing, hope the snow is good for you!

Have a nosey around your second hand shops.I bought a whole kit over a period of time for about £10.TK Max is good , especially now,in summer they have to sell off their winter stock.I imagine the US would be cheaper, but It wouldn't be a good idea to buy at your ski station.

hi there, not sure exactly what you should buy clothing wise, but a great shop/web site is sportsdirect.com, they have fantastic bargains, i got a ski jacket reduced from £100 to £15.99 last month, it is the wrong time of year to be looking for ski wear but check out the site, you might find what you are looking for, hope this helps

I would rent skis or boards at the ski resort and, for your money, go to www.spyder.com

In Australia you can rent outerwear. You probably can in New York/Vermont.

Buying gear is a lot of money if you decide you don't like it.
