It's called OCR (optical character recognition) (the process is any way). Best known is probably Caere Omniscan.

you should run what’s called an Optical character attractiveness (OCR) software (you would be able to have contain the scanner) on the scanned checklist and convert it to textual content cloth that be conscious can cope with, yet OCR is an artwork, no longer a technology. i can very pretty much assure which you will could desire to repair: a million. Mis-switched over fonts. 2. Mis-study characters (i for l, working example, o, 0 or Q mixups) 3. Mangled format. The scanned checklist, as a be conscious report, could look no longer something like the paper reproduction. finding on the checklist’s format, you may spend a great form of time getting it on the threshold of what the unique looked like. desire that facilitates.

You need OCR software.

When you scan a page, you're not scanning the words. You're scanning a PICTURE of the words. So your text editor can't do anything with it.

OCR software looks at the picture and decides which parts of the picture are letters. Then it tries to make words out of the letters. So make a GOOD scan, not a low res scan. Then you should be able to bring it into any text editing program you like.

Be aware that unusual fonts can make things difficult, and you'll need to go through the text yourself and make corrections as needed. The OCR software is only making a 'best guess' so your own judgement will be needed at times.
