i recently went to my local beach to collect edible crabs i have been doing this for many years,having found about ten nice crabs all in size[against law to take edible crabs under size]i was stopped by a warden who manages a wild bird reserve which i have to walk through no prob there as its public right of way,he looked in my bucket and told me it was now againsed the law to remove these crabs,i more or less told him to get lost as i have been doing this before he was born.if any on can enlighten me if this is now against the law i would be most grateful

not against the law probably upset you got there first,just ask him if he has crabs

Hi, The warden did not know what he was talking about no size laws on crab sizes. There has been a shortage of crabs recently especially peeler crabs begining to find harder these days around devon and cornwall areas.

It depends on the state's environmental laws. In New York, blue claw crabs have to be 4" point to point to keep them. I don't know how the state's Department of Environmental Conservation expects a crabber to measure a crab given that blue claws hurt when they pinch. Regardless, I only keep the big ones because there isn't that much meat in the small ones.
