The serpent is not evil. The serpents true symbolism was twisted by Christians who wanted to detract their people from the lure of Paganism. The serpent is a Goddess symbol. That's why in Genesis chapter 3, God cursed the serpent and then seeked to place eternal enmity between woman and the serpent. The serpent is a symbol sacred to Goddesses under many names. The one I'm most familiar with is Brigit. Brigit was the patron Goddess of poetry, smithcraft, and HEALING. The serpent itself is a symbol of wisdom (the serpent gave Eve the fruit of the tree of knowledge, by the way) and a symbol of tranformation and healing.

The reason the symbol for medicine is a serpent on a pole comes from an account in the Bible in the Book of Numbers when God was angry with the people of Israel.
Numbers 21:5 The people spoke against God and Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this miserable food."
6 The LORD sent fiery serpents among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died.
7 So the people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD and you; intercede with the LORD, that He may remove the serpents from us." And Moses interceded for the people.
8 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live."
9 And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on the standard; and it came about, that if a serpent bit any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.
This was a picture of what Jesus would do for us when He died on the cross for our sins. We could look to Him and be saved from our sins. Jesus alluded to this in the gospel of John.
John 3:14 "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up;
15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life."

Prayer must only work on things that their health plan doesn't cover.
I wonder if maybe prayer is sort of a co-pay type thing?

Many don't, for this reason. Which is nonsense. God gave doctors brains and skills.
I know people who have died because they considered doctors pagan.
