I have a penpal off a penpal website that is supposedly from China. I am writing back and forth by request from my teacher to earn extra credit towards next year in my language class. I told her that I live in Florida, and that I am on summer vacation. She said that she was on summer vacation too, however... isn't it a different season in China now? Typically when, and how long is their summer vacation? Could this girl be lying to me? I don't want to lose points if my teacher finds out that this is not authentic. She will think that I havent learned anything.

Summer Vacation for a typical public school is from June to late August/early September. Because US and China are both in the northern hemisphere, their climate are the same. Depends on where they are in China, the closer you are to the equator, the more tropical the climate, similar to the US.

So, if the person lives in Southern China, the weather is very similar to Florida, very hot and humid. If the person lives in Northern China, the weather is more similar to the New England area.

Right now I'm in central-eastern China. The window is open and it is stinking hot. It is definitely summer!

University students start their vacation in a couple of weeks and it lasts for about two months. I'm not sure about high-school students. It certainly seems plausible she is telling the truth.

Why not give her the benefit of the doubt?

China is in the Northern hemisphere, so they have the same seasons as we do here in the States. The countries below the equator are in the winter season right now.

From the way you asked this question, I can tell you learned very little about China and that's why you started to worry that much!!!!!! How many letters you have written to her? Just 2?

You don't even know the climate or where is China on this planet!!!! Come on, do you think you were talking to an Australian born Chinese penpal????

Check the world map and look up where Florida is and try to find the city / town where she lives in China (the address you wrote and sent to her).

By the way, how old are you? If you are below 10, then, you need parental guide to write letters to strangers.

No, she's telling the truth :] US has the same season as Asia, since we're on the same HEMISPHERE. ie, Australia would be totally the opposite, cuz they're on the southern hemisphere.

oh yeah, by the way, ask your penpal about more cultural stuff ^^ it's really unique!
