Hi, Amber! I think that is so awesome that you want to spend that time reading the Bible every night! If you go to the following website, you can get a really cool free download called "Creative Bible Study Methods". (It is actually a whole course.)
http://www.harvestime.org/EnglishCurriculum.htm
Just scroll down to it, on the left side of the page.
In the second chapter, they have some good ideas on reading the Bible, and some Bible reading plans.
I would say my favorite O.T. book is Psalms, and I have a few favorites in the N.T. - such as Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and I John. Some of my favorite passages are Psalm 91, Psalm 23, Psalm 139, Psalm 46:10, Romans 8, and John 14 - 16. Reading the Bible is a good way to relax before falling asleep, too.

I started with II timothy. I read the whole book in an evening. My heart was touched! I must say the message was right on time it spoke of many things I was going through. The Lord leads us!
It was also encouraging because I completed it and studied it in one night. Before I had tried to read from Gen a couple chapters a day. i didn't get past the 3rd day. But after reading all of II tim I knew it was possible to finish a book. I was so inspired by what i read I made a commitment to go through a short book of the NT each day and if it was longer i would give myself 2 days. I also started going to bible study once a week. I found the translations that flowed best for me and this made reading the word more understandable and desirable.
After II tim I read eph, I tim, colos, titus, phil, the gospels, and the rest of the NT. Now I'm reading through the old. God will fire you up and you won't want to put it down.
a favorite= II timothy 3:16-17 The word is definitely instructions for life
Lift up a specific prayer for the Holy Spirit to lead you through the word!

Hi Amber,
Praise God!
i would suggest reading the gospels:
John (7 i am statements about jesus), Matthew, Mark and Luke.
i think the Psalms are also great in conveying the heart of God.
James: a very practical book.
My favorite Bible verse is: 1 Samuel 16:7- ... it reminds us that God looks at the heart.
May God bless you as you read His word. Maybe you can also get a devotional and it'll have a daily reading with a passage.
i think a really good devotional for sisters- is Elizabeth Eliot's: Keep a Quiet Heart!
i would suggest just doing your best to read the Bible. Pray for the Holy Spirit's help. Attend a small group or a Bible study if possible. And also try reading some Christian books.
God Bless You! Kindly,
Nickster

Start with Matthew 5-7, the Sermon on the Mount. All the rest of the New Testament leads up to it. St. Francis of Assisi, Leo Tolstoy and Dietrich Bonhoeffer even believed it should be read literally.
Stay away from the Old Testament and Revelation, unless you're willing to spend serious time comparing conflicting interpretations.

When I first got saved, I started at the beginning.
More importantly, I asked God to reveal Himself to me through the Holy Spirit, before I began my reading each day.
Are you born again? If not... I suggest you ask God to direct your understanding toward a saving knowledge of the Scripture and not some of the other stuff that was printed here... which can only understand some of the more hard parts with frail human understanding.

Start with John, he teaches a lot about Jesus.
I think it is best to pray for guidance and understanding of Gods word each time before you read.
I don't know what kind of Bible you have but if your just starting it's more easy to understand the N.I.V. version or the New king James, It's also good to have a reference Bible, It helps explain the verses underneath them.

John is where most start.
Set down on paper a list of the books you think you'd like to read over the next couple months. You'll be surprised how many you can read.

Gospel of John. It basically sums up the whole gospel; explains who Jesus Christ is and who he claims to be. Then read Matthew, Luke, Mark. Then if you're into poems, try Psalms. I enjoy reading Ecclesiastes as well. I recommend reading the New Testament first before Old Testament. Enjoy!
