I've had so many symbolic dreams, I've lost count. For several years I kept dream journals. They are interesting to read, even the gory horrible ones. With the advantage of the psychological distance of time, their meanings seem to be clear as day. Not always so at the time of the dream.
I have found that what I think it means IS pretty much what it means. There was a very stressful part of my life when I went for counseling and the counselor told me he thought I had the most incredibly deep and profoundly creative dreams. My conclusion was he must not have remembered his dreams, because mine have always been the way they were since I was a little kid.
Read a little Carl Jung and his theory of the universal archetypes, then make your own conclusions. There is another theory that every character in a dream is an aspect of yourself. Others believe that it may be our spirit guides or Angels trying to protect us Some say it's just the electrical discharge of a brain clearing itself at the end of the day. I personally find them insightful and entertaining. Good luck.

All dreams are symbolic. The way you interpret them is to list things in the dream. Such as you are laying on a blanket by stream kissing your favorite boy friend or girl friend. Now what is in the dream? Get a good dream book.

Nearly all dreams are symbolic in some way. Dreams have always intrigued me because they represent various parts of the mind, and the foundation of one's soul. When you are at rest your mind processes all of this, and the result often seems like a riddle that doesn't make any sense. Many aspect of dreams are symbols, ranging from what takes place to the names assigned to people, places and things.
Everyone will have different answers for what your dreams mean. What is important is that you pay attention to the details that stand out to you. Find yourself a good dream dictionary that doesn't sound like a daily horoscope (money is coming your way, a death looms in your future, etc.) with meanings that resonate fairly well with you. I like Tony Crisp's Dream Dictionary. A good dream book can serve as a starting point for the interpretation of your symbolic dreams. It also helps to write down the details as soon as you are awake. sometimes just the act of writing it down is enough to bring meaning to the symbols we see in our sleep.

Yes! I have them very often... Every night lately, I dream about one of my best friends. He's always holding my hand in them. We're always running, too, and sometimes we're running away from my BEST friend o_0... Holding hands is supposed to symbolize your connection to that person, and anxieties you have of losing touch or drifting away from each other. Which, I have been worrying about ^_^;;. I usually try to think really deep into my dreams, and find the meaning behind the meaning :O.
And if not, google it XD.

Yes, especially when young. I learned a great deal from them, which intrigued a psychiatrist friend somewhat. But I was lucky to realise intuitively how to interpret them, and did so through whole series across many years.
