You know what,I'm actually considering becomming a Christian. But I am confused about Christianity and the Bible,so I post some sincere questions and whaddaya know?--the Christians just prance around telling me I'm trying to disprove their religion, and I can't--even though THEY can't answer my questions!Look,I'm not TRYING to disprove Christianity---quite on the contrary ,I'm wondering whether Christianity is the true religion and I'm trying to find out through some questions. But if you are unable to answer my questions, does'nt that mean that I HAVE disproved Christianity?Anyhow,If Christianity IS the true religion, but I die believing it's false because my questions concerning it were never answered, then, according to your Bible,YOU,lady luck and The Instigator, will have my blood on your hands. And if Christianity IS'NT the true religion--then I've lost nothing through your stupid and ignorant replies.

1)If God can heal spiritually, can he also heal physically?
Yes, there are many times in the Bible where people are healed physically.

2)Can you explain to me the geocentric view taken in the Bible?
The bible speaks briefly of other planets but its main focus is on earth, it seems that the whole universe was made simply for our entertainment.
3)The Bible talks about ''the four angels at the four corners of the earth''(Revelations). Is this not referring to a flat earth?
Four corners of the earth is just a phrase. It really means secret places, i.e) The most remote places.
4)How is it scientifically possible for Jesus to have been conceived without a father?
God is above scientific.
5)If he was conceived without a father, why does the Bible then list his geneaology as being that of Joseph(Matthew 1)?
Because of his mothers bloodline.
6)The Messiah was to be called Emmanuel. So why was Jesus called Jesus and not Emmanuel?
That is another name for him, I think in Greek?
7)What about the star of Bethlehem?
Thats some star... Could be scientific or not but God is above that.
8)What about all that in Isaiah and Revelations about the sun being darkened and stars falling from the sky in the end days? How could that happen and yet people survive for further tribulations?
I am sure the meteorites will be small enough that we don't all die. They have fallen before
9)Can you prove that Genesis does NOT teach Babylonian astronomy?
Whats Babylonian astronomy?
10)And Jesus turning water into wine? How is that scientifically possible?
Its not! thats why its so amazing!
11)How do you know that the Old Testament is not a load of mythology derived from the Sumerian and Mesopotamian myths?
Archeology and also fulfilled phrophesy.
12)Does'nt the OT exhibit sexism?
The OT not only exhihibit sexism, but also brutal killings and genocide. This is all explained but what you must see is that no innocent people were killed. I could explain better but would lots more detail.
13)What about the OT promoting slavery and violence?
As above, yes the OT does promote these things when justified. Need more detail...
14)Why would you choose Christianity above other religions?
I have searched to be proven that Christianity is not real, but so far I cannot find one fault. Also I connect with the Christian God and he answers my prayers 90% of the time and cares for me.
15)And lastly,where can I find out more?
Your local church would be happy to help or a simple Google search. However I would love to chat with you about it all. My Yahoo is galcir@yahoo.com and msn/hotmail is: joshgalbraith2@hotmail.com
I would answer any question and would love to chat about it all. And dw, i won't rattle off bible verses :P Good Luck!

1) yes...have experience with both
2) I actually fail to see that the Bible DID have a geocentric view of Earth....when they spoke of the "4-corners" they meant East-West-North-South....however, I probably failed to analyze the words that spoke of the Earth because it wasn't the topic foremost on my mind when I read the Bible :)
3) see #2
4) LOL....hence why it was a MIRACULOUS BIRTH
5) Once Joseph married Mary, their 2 families joined and jesus, even though a step child of Josephs in the eyes of man, was of the lineage of Abraham as prophecy decreed IN THE EYES OF MAN....yet, since God (Jesus's Real Father) was the Father of Abraham, Jesus already WAS of the lineage, however, even in this, God knew man's mind and granted the concession so that there wasn't more of a stumbling block then man was apt to try and put there.
6) LOL since you knew where to go to get that info, then you also know the "why"
7) ? What about it?
8) personally, I have envisioned many scenario's where this would be an apt explanation of what someone from those era's would be speaking about, but, regardless of which one is "close" or "on the mark", I have decided it doesn't matter.
9) LOL do not know "Babylonian astronomy", so, cannot make a guess much less answer yes or no
10) "miracle" seems as appropriate to describe it by me as it does in the Bible
11) I have "walked on the wild side" and stepped out in Faith and when I was filled with the Holy Spirit and "gifted" with many (if not all) of the very things that the New Testament spoke of, I no longer had any "doubt" left within me
12) When looking for it, yes....but when Jesus came, He changed that so that ALL were the same in the eyes of the Lord, to be blessed equally
13) see #12
14) Rather fond of the "Christ" part, lol....however, I do not have any "church" which I call "home", but rather, wherever I am, THAT is my Church...including Y&A
15) Read the Bible, and, try to take a "walk on the wildside" and step out in Faith and ask Jesus and the Holy Spirit to come into your life and grant you Knowledge and discernment as a beginning....what exactly do you have to "lose"?
15A) e-mail me anytime you truly wish to understand more :)

Peace be with you :)

1. Yes.
2. Outdated world view. The Bible contains both contradictions and errors, as well as inspiration.
3. Dunno. Maybe. Why wouldn't it? That was what they thought at the time.
4. Good question. Ask a biologist. (Cf. cloning, in vitro etc...)
5. Good question. I often wondered that.
6. Em, maybe he doesn't fit the earlier Messiah-prophecies as well as some people taught? Or maybe it was poetic speech or something.
7. Well, what about it? Could have been some kind of conjunction. The "three wise men" were astrologers.
8. Have you heard of poetic language? Nuclear winter? Polar shift? (The stars would appear to fall.) Anyway historically it was controversial among Bible scholars as to whether Revelation should be regarded as scripture at all.
9. Why wouldn't it? It was the best science of the time.

The Bible represents the unfolding concept of God in the mind of the Hebrew people. It contains both contradictions and errors--it would be surprising if it didn't, being of such antiquity.

In regard to your other questions, I don't know how to turn water into wine. But I'm told it will some day be scientifically possible to turn anything into anything (nano-technology I believe). There was certainly what we would call sexism in the Bible--it was a patriarchal society. In regard to slavery and violence, yes they were there--Jesus came to heal the world from both, among other things. Read the Sermon on the Mount. And that answers your question as to why one would choose Christianity over other religions. (Though I believe that other religions have important spiritual values as well.)

See, we're not all fundies or mindless literalists. Have a nice day.

Dear Meow,

If you can shoot me an email i'd be glad to try to answer these questions in length for you.

i think that sincere questions deserve sincere and Biblical answers- it's just a lot of questions for one sitting.

Please also keep in mind that people who have been Christians for years are still learning things about God all the time and that you don't necessarily have to have all your questions answered. There is nothing wrong with doubt- it's what you do with it- do you search it out- and part of growing is searching, seeking, and learning more about Jesus.

There are also some really good books i could suggest to you- concerning questions skeptics ask, etc. If you go to a local Christian bookstore and go to the apologetics section there will be books which may answer many of your questions. Eyeballing i can answer the majority of your questions. Some i need to learn more about - like #9, i don't know much about Babylonian astronomy and i'd have to re-read Genesis which will take me awhile.

Anyhow i do sincerely want to help, so do email.

Kindly,

Nickster

well an atheist can not convince a believer to be wrong. theologists put much efforts for this. on the other hand those, who doubt and question, not accept things true without proofs end up as atheists. and in this case a believer can not convince an atheist to be wrong. if one argues and challenges in such matters there's no result except number of upset people more convinced in their statements. every of your statements hold true and every can be explained rationally, though most christians likely to dislike explanations, yet your question here was not for actual explanations, was it? ;)

questioning nature is a tool to grow wiser. do not rush to show people what you discover, wait until the time, the audience, the atmosphere and the form of telling is right for the right effect. otherwise people tend to shun any reason. good luck to you.

You have to read the Bible with the insight that it has been written ages ago by authors who didn't have the knowledge we have today.

Mary was impregnated by the holy ghost. 4 angels, one positioned at each end of the globe. Bible lists geneaology as being that of Joseph, cause something had to written down. Jesus is easier to say than emanuel.
