I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Robinson Crusoe when I was in 4th grade. Some people are just gifted with a heightened reading and comprehension level. The trick is not to take it for granted, and put it to it's fullest use. Read some classic literature, because you'll never get a real chance to in school. The classes need to be kept to the "average" students, so the only time you'll be able to further your contemporary and classical education is on your own. And just remember, there's nothing at all wrong with being a powerful reader. It puts you ahead, and don't let people convince you that you're a "geek" for it.

no, i don't think it's "normal" in fact, it's more common to find a tenth grader reading at a sixth grade level. And that is so unfortunate.
Geek? who cares? the ability to read well will enable you to learn anything from how to fix your own computer from a manual to perhaps writing your own novel some day. Good work.

You're not a geek. You're smart and like reading. I was reading at a beyond college level in 7th grade. I blew the other students out of the water and some of them hated me for it. It's a natural thing to be jealous of someone who does something better than you. It's just human nature. For those who put you down, just ignore them or be extremely polite. That really annoys people because it makes them look like jerks (which they are) and you look like a decent human being (which I assume is true.) When you get out in the real world, being literate is very important and you'll land a lot more jobs than the others who can barely write their own names. :)

Absoultely not! It just means that you are at a higher level. When i was in First Grade, I made a record at my school by Reading on a 6-7th grade level. And by the time I went to middle school, I had only 75 more books in the library to read for me to have read them all. I wasn't considered a Geek. People praised me for being able to read so well

You're not a geek. You're just the one who is closest to your actual "normal" potential - all your classmates are stagnating and definitely could be where you are now or further, it is just that no-one ever thinks to ask enough of them that they reach this. In my opinion a so-called 10th grade level, at least, is where you SHOULD be reading!
I see this with kids all the time and it REALLY bugs me. Education is a disgrace almost everywhere; every single kid in the system is underestimated.
If other kids are calling you a geek, do your best to ignore them. They are kidding themselves and (believe me) will despise their education when they realise too late that it totally and utterly failed them. You are luckier and managing to get ahead (of the others!) despite your education. KEEP IT UP!

Is this a problem, being smart? Smart people don't call other smart people geeks, so what you need to do (if you are really worried about this) is to find other smart people with whom you can relate, share ideas, and perhaps learn from each other. And by the way, congratulations on being smart, because for you life in general will be much more interesting than for those who put down smart people.

No, absolutely not! I am dying for an advanced brain, but I'm really thankful with my brain now.
Being smart is not geeky. If people call you a geek or a nerd, they'll be working for you in the future. You'll see.
FLAME ON!!!!
