First You need to start with Basic.
put your left Hand Pinky on A and put other fingers next - left hand fingers should be on ASDF, and same Way Put your Right Hand Pinky on ; And settle others ;lkj.
Now Try ASDF & ;LKJ again and again to practice.
Than try one of the website offers typing lessons like, http://www.goodtyping.com/ and you will see more on other Letters.
Most Important thing is that You Remember you Keys, and Speed will come as you get used to it.
When I started learning Typing I was typing at speed of 26 Words Per Second and now its above 60 Words Per Second.
Just google for typing lessons and you will see lots of links.

Practice practice practice. The typing software also help a lot, but work on typing emails, etc, every day to get the feel of the keys. I can successfully type 3,800 words in an hour, so it's not impossible to improve.

Mavis beacon is a really good program!! I am sure you could even get it from the library or cheap online.
There are also websites you can practise your keys on:
http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/typing/index.htm
You enter the letter they flash in the little box on the left of your screen.
or typing games:
http://get.games.yahoo.com/proddesc;_ylc=X3IDMgRtcANibARwb3MDNDAEc2VjA2dhbWVsaXN0BHNsawNUeXBlciBTaGFyaw--?gamekey=typershark
click on play web game (that is free)
You can enter typing tests, etc. into your search engine and find others, too.
But I really recommend Mavis Beacon because overall as it targets and strengthens problem areas.

Dont look at the keys when you type. Your four left fingers should be on asdf and your four right on jkl;. Whenever you type something assign a letter for each finger and only that finger is allowed to hit that key. For instance only allow your left pinkey to touch qaz. then practice alot and soon you will not even have to look at the keys. Your fingers will remember were to go automatically. It will take awhile for your finger muscles to get used to being used in this manner.

You really need to invest time practicing. Something I used and highly recommend is the game typer shark deluxe. It's fun and it has a typing tutor part where you will learn to use all your fingers in typing.

Repetition, just find something on the computer that you like to do, something that involves typing, my way was playing online video games, it got me frustrated that other people could tell me 6 different things in the time it took me to say "okay" and i just eventually got better.

Type slowly until you feel comfortable going faster. Take it one step at a time.
