Dear todd G,

i think that it's something that you should ask your family about. My personal thought is that funerals are really more for the people who are alive than are dead. In terms of cremation do keep in mind that your family has to watch the process of your body being burnt to ash and they also have to watch your ashes spread out.

For myself i imagine how that would affect the people that are alive- like my mom, my brother, my friends, and i think it would be a very painful thing for them to observe and also the idea of being placed in an urn - might lead to some odd worship things (in Chinese culture its very common for people to set up pictures of dead relatives, with fruit, etc.) and as someone who worships God i don't want people to be worshipping me or to be pained by watching my body be cremated so i personally choose burial.

Just wanted to share some thoughts on the subject and to i hope that might be some things you consider- as you make that choice.

i've let my family know how to handle my funeral and even taken out a life insurance policy so that they will not be burdened should the time come sooner than expected.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

That's a tough question. I think cremation makes the most sense. Just thinking about my body decomposing for a long time is weird. Regardless of your beliefs, when a person dies, their physical remains are not that person anymore. People are loved for their personality -intelligence, spirituality, joy, givingness, humor, diligence, friendliness, poise, loyalty, etc and so much more. Your body is a shell that holds those things during your life time. Life is like a journey, except that no matter how long it is, you always make it to your destination. If we want a fun or long-lasting journey, then we care for the boat. We fix the leaks if we can. But eventually, the journey will end. Sometimes our boat just becomes irreparable. We accept the fact that we cannot fix it. The boat sinks. The trip is over; we make it to the destination and leave it behind. I think its human nature not to want to let go. If we can't physically see something, we have to depend on faith, which is tough for a lot of people. But when we lose someone we care for, its not their body we miss, it's the person inside the body we miss. So whether or not there are physical remains, doesn't change the fact that it is the memories that we will always keep. And as for the soul (the being, the person inside the shell, whatever you want to call it), well everyone has a different idea about what happens. I'm not sure, but I'd like to be able to watch my future generations on their journies. And maybe even start another journey, that would be pretty neat too. It's a win win pretty much. That was pretty deep, my bad. Basically, what happens to my body when I'm dead is of little importance to me. I would hope if they were still in good condition, my organs would be donated. And since something has to be done with my remains, go ahead and bury the ashes so people can come to my grave to reflect or remember or whatever, even though they really don't need it to do so.

if you believe in God, the only acceptable way is burial. In the bible it states that burial was a honorable thing to do. The only people that got cremated where the criminals and certain immoral people. (Gen. 38:24, Lev. 20:14, 21:9, Joshua 7:15, 25). In Amos 2:1, the Lord rebukes Moab for burning the bones of the King of Edom.

I don't mind really, what ever my loved ones decide.
But I sort of like the idea of cremation. And placed in the memorial wall in the garden section and facing the morning sun. And a nice smiling photo so they can see me smiling at them each time I get a visit.
But if burying me makes them fell better then thats ok too. I wont be here so it wont matter, will it.

I'm going with cremation. I can still get my ashes in a beautiful national military cemetary.
My family for years have been buried. I find the thought of it really strange. I don't want my body buried in a box in the ground.
There is also a movement that buries unembalmed bodies in an easily degradable box in a wooded area. The idea is to have the bodies quickly return to natural elements.

Cremation!
In my Living Will I requested that my remains are NOT to be embalmed and that my remains are to be cremated after the Wiccan Rites of Passage Ritual has been performed.
An my ashes are to be buried next to my family with a small headstone bearing the Wiccan pentacle above my name and DOB/DOD.

Cremation, because I don't want my family to have to think of me lying in the cold ground.

I actually would prefer to be eaten by wild animals. It's more natural and benefits the environment much more. I don't have any desire for my body to be found.

Eaten alive would be alright. I'll only get to experience death once and might as well get the full effect. The pain would not last that long anyway.

ditto

plus, eventually they're gonna have to dig everyone up anyway or start stacking the bodies cause we'll run out of room. better to be cremated.

plus, there are far better uses for our land. like leaving it the hell alone so people can appreciate what little of nature is left that man hasn't interfered with already.
