I'm Jewish from the US. My boyfriend is not Jewish; he's an Australian Christian. How are people doing these days with getting their nonJewish spouses (we'd marry) into permanent residency in Israel when they make aliyah? Is this very difficult? Also, can such a person have three citizenships (he's a dual citizen with New Zealand already)? Thanks!

Anyone married to a Jew qualifies for the Law of Return. Non-jewish citizens have same rights as Jewish ones except right to marry and some issues regarding burial. You're Jewish, so any children would be considered Jewish. Israel doesn't have a problem with retaining NZ/AU citizenship. I don't think NZ/AU have a problem with gaining Israeli citizenship, but you should check it out.

1. Your boyfriend should convert to Judaism. If he were a real and practicing Christian he would not be with you in the first place. This will make things easier on your kids too. Mixed marriages are difficult. High divorce rates. Why put yourselves through this, especially in Israel.
2. Then get married in a Jewish ceremony. Congratulations.
3. Now go to the Israeli website about this and follow the instructions carefully. You should have no problems getting permanent residency in Israel. There are forms to fill out, fees to pay. Hopefully you have skills that are needed in Israel.
4. He will be able to keep all his citizenships. It is more important that he become Jewish and loyal to Israel.
5. Good luck!

Well as a Jew you, as you know I assume, get free citizenship into Israel but for your husband it will be a process i reckon...probably will be made easier by the fact that you are Jewish tho.
