Or an old VHS.

Say I was watching a programme after the analogue gets switched off and everything becomes digital. What would happen if I tried to record the show I was watching on an old video recorder.

You will not be able to use the recorders built in tuner, that won't work any more. You will be able to take the video output from your digital box or digital TV and record that, it just means you have to be watching the channel you want to record.

If you have already a (satellite/cable) set-top box with composite/S-video out, nothing. Everything is the same.

If you use off-the-air, you will need to buy a little set-top with a digital tuner and composite/s-video out.
