telling probation officer/ without proof?

Question

My best friend, 19, is dating a 39 year old. Her girl friend has been in trouble multiple times with the law and is now on probation. Recently I discovered she is buying alcohol for my friend, who just got out of rehab, and smoking meth with her too. I don't know what to do...
My question is this; if I were to tell her probation officer what is going on, how would they know that I'm not making it up? And could she actually get in trouble unless she was caught in the act?

well the could drug test her anytime. it's a condition of probation. that would give them evidence to take to court to have her probation revoked. if she's your "best friend" why are you doing this? is it an interventiion for her own good? with friends like this......

If more people would step up and get involved then a lot more crime would get solved. There are so many people out there that are so upset about this country's big drug problem but they are unwilling to help out or get involved. I hear people complain all the time about their neighbors who are drug dealers and how the police do nothing about it yet they are completely unwilling to provide any information. Certainly I understand not wanting to put yourself at physical risk but that is not always the case.

While in some matters I agree a "mind your own business" approach applies I do not agree that is the case when it comes to crime. If you know of someone who is doing drugs, providing drugs, and comitting other crimes you should be proud to take a stand and report it.

Now that being said you need to be very sure that you are willing to get involved even if it means upseting your friend. If you are willing to take the risks involved and do speak with the probation officer it is very likely that the PO will take action. The easy thing to do would be to do a drug test but that is not all that could be done. If the PO believes you then they can hold the person accountable they do not have to catch her in the act . Please make certain before you do anything that you know for sure that this is going on and is not just a rumor or a mere suspicion. Do no make any false accusations.

Understand that when you report this to her probation officer, you don't need proof. Just tell them what you know. It's the probation officer's job to figure out the truth. There are ways, like a drug test to verify the truth.
If she is giving your friend meth, then that person doesn't care about your friend. She needs to get away from that person and lifestyle.
Yes, she can get in trouble. If she tests "dirty," the PO can revoke her probation. It sounds like she needs to go somewhere where there isn't any drugs for awhile....
Sometimes being a good friend won't always make you popular with them for awhile....

I hope your friend realizes just how good of a friend you are.

If you contact her probation officer, they are required to do a follow-up. They most likely would request that she come in for a drug test. If she violates her probation she may end up going to jail, but if there is a drug problem and she is willing to get help, she could be sentenced to a treatment facility. Either way it does remove her from the environment that she has been in, which is not a bad thing.

Your friend needs help. Go to the WE TIP website and turn her in anonymously. (The Goggle search engine can help you find it.) If she finds out it is you that turned her in your friendship is over, then she will really be lost. This site is very good and it will help her to get away from this negative person. Recognize the probation officer may catch your friend dirty also. If the officer contacts the girlfriend & your friend is with her, they may both go down.
Would that stop me from telling the PO? Not for a minute. Those saying to keep your nose out of it fail to see your nose is already in it. If you weren't already involved you wouldn't be asking the question.
