I'm only considering wheels that are large enough for a Syrian hamster and have solid, not wire bases and backs.

Which brand/model is the quietest?
Is it quieter as a stand-alone or snapped on to a wire cage?

Please only answer if you've tried a few different types of wheels.

Syrian Hamsters are larger than the average hamsters so you need to buy a rats wheel for his cage. All pet stores sell silent wheels to stop the noise. If you find these wheels dont help apply a liitle cooking oil to the back of the wheel. This will immediatly stop it from squeaking and is safe for your hamster.

I have my syrian in a 15 gallon and he loves the Wodent Wheel. Very quiet and it comes apart very easy for cleaning. It is a stand alone. Good for tanks. Not cages. They are ASPCA approved.

I have also used the Comfort Wheel. Quiet also. But I think the Wodent Wheel is an excellent wheel.

petsmart has the Dazzle cage on sale for $29 the wheel that comes with this cage is the quietest one I have ever heard, and she loves the cage, it's a replacement for the one she did have, the x all by crittertrail, and yes she's a syrian longhaired big girl.

"Silent Spinners" usually live up to their name. You can get them in different colors, various sizes & they can either be free-standing or attach to the cage. The make even less sound than a Comfort Wheel. We use them for our mice & rats. The mice use them a *lot* & we can sleep right through it. Only 1 of our rats really uses her wheel a lot--she bounces on it & manages to loosen the bolt, which eventually causes some sound until we fix it for her.

Get a clip-onto-the-cage, plastic, large one.
