The army will require that you serve out your term of enlistment with them (minimum three years) before you are permitted to leave and join the Marine Corps. The different branches of service do not swap their members back and forth like different departments at Microsoft.
If you want to be a Marine, be a Marine.

As others have said, if you want to be a Marine, join the Marine Corps. If you join the Army first, you'll serve out your full contract before you can swap (A CW3 Apache pilot I know started out as a 15Q Marine then moved to the Army, so it is possible).
Ignore the idiots saying "[insert service here] are retards!" or "There's a draft coming!" They're pretty obviously either stupid, ignorant, or seriously misinformed. Each service focuses on different things and attracts different sorts of people. The Marine Corps is a small, elite, light-infantry force. They aren't designed to do the same things the US Army does, nor what the USAF does, nor the same things that the US Navy does. Unless the Democrats can ram it through, there will never again be a Draft. That would destroy everything we've accomoplished with our professional, all-volunteer military. All services have been regularly meeting their recruiting goals, and the deployed units have the highest rates of re-enlistment.
There are about 180,000 Marines. There are over 1,000,000 Soldiers. They mean it when they say "The Few, The Proud, The Marines."
I report for US Army (Reserves) Basic Training in about 2 weeks, so I'm unbiased when I say - "If you want to be a Marine, join the Corps."

Join the Marines and I will tell you why: Since this war we are in now is just the beginning of a larger, more international conflict, any service you join will require you to stay in for as long as it takes, like in World War 2. The draft is coming soon because the USA needs more soldiers. So what I'm saying is if you join the army, they will keep you; you will have no option to switch to another service! So join the marines now if that is what you really want in the first place. The army will soon be filled with folk who are drafted and unhappy about it. Those accepted into the marines usually want to be there and be marines. Good luck.

If you want to be a Marine, join the Marine Corps. If you join the Army first, you may end up stuck in the Army longer than you signed up for. Many soldiers are having their hitches extended against their will as more and more soldiers are deployed.
If you want to prepare in advance to be a Marine, start a program of strength and endurance training until you are accepted by the Corps... but join the branch of service you actually want to be in! God bless you for deciding to serve your country!

joining the Army won't prepare you for being a Marine.. If you want to be a Marine, then join the Marine Corps. You'd have to go through Marine Corps boot camp anyway... so why put it off?

If you joined the US Army, you would have to would have to serve whatever term you agreed to serve. There is no, repeat no, provisions made to transfer from one service to another. If you want to be a US Marine, do what other proud men and women do, join the corps and grow in the corps. Good luck. It is a tough row to hoe but the results are worth it.

Why wouldn't you just sign up with the Marines with delayed entry? Keep away from the Army.
The Marines are the best force. The Marines can kick the Army's butt. The Army is for the genetically challenged. Don't tarnish yourself, keep well away from those Army retards.

You can't just jump ship. If you join the Army, then you'll have to serve your four-year enlistment in the Army. Then, if you still want to join the Marine Corps, you can enlist there for another four years. I'm not telling you what service to join, I'm just telling you that you can only join one. So choose carefully.

You shouldn't join the Army. If you want to be a Marine join the Marines.
The Army will want you to stay on for your full enlistment. I know of no programs that facilitate switching services.

The only branches that allows a transfer of service while in current enlistment is the AF. It's called the "blue to green" program....and that is because the army needs people. You have to do your full enlistment, get honorably discharged, and then join the Marines.
And unlike other branches that do not require you to go to boot camp if you are prior service, I believe you have to go to Marines boot camp regardless. Someone please correct me if I am wrong about that
