I know that all the apostles, except Judas Iscariot (who hung self), and John, the beloved were martyred for their faith. But I've heard that the emperor Domitian had John boiled in a vat of oil that did not affect him (like the 3 hebrew boys in the firey furnace who were not burned by the fire). Is this historically accurate? Did God save him from the boiling oil?

I understand that was the case. I think that it would have been amazing and wonderful, and relieving to see. But the account of Polycarp was supposed to be well documented too. Did you check that one out too?

According to the following website, "tradition" says that is what happened, re the boiling oil. If he survived it, it certainly looks like it was God's protection. After that he was exiled to the island of Patmos, where he wrote the Book of Revelation.

I think there is an account of someone being bolied in oil............I think it was Paul or John. Not sure of the source. But the Lord does preserve many and could have done that.
