Just put it in a Tupperware in your refrigerator. It'll be fine.

The answer depends on how fast you intend to use it.

Never, ever, ever leave it in the can!! You can get very sick.

If you'll use it up in a week or so, put it in a small glass, or Corningware, or china bowl & cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap.

If you're not going to use it within a week, put it in a ziploc freezer bag being sure to get all the air out of the bag before you close the zipper. If you don't have a ziploc - just a regular freezer bag with a twisty tie - get the paste down to 1 corner of the bag & tightly twist the rest of the bag a couple of times. Then pull the open end of the bag back over the twisted corner, effectively double-bagging the paste before putting on the twisty tie. Next time you need tomato paste defrost the bag & voila - there it is!!

put olive oil on the top and close it with the plastic cap if it has or wrap it with a plastic wrap .But it's better to put it first in a bottle made by glass cause the ingredients of the cane as time passes go in the tomato paste and that is unhealthy .

Get it out of the can it came in first, because once the metal can is opened and exposed to air, it oxidizes with the acid in the paste fast.
Sooooo, you can preserve un-used paste in almost anything.
Glass is best, plastic second... (even a zip-lock baggie). Then keep refrigerated.

Divide it up and freeze it in containers.

While it is frozen, run warm water over the bottom of the container.

Pop it out and put them in a freezer bag.

Then you can use the amount you need, next time.

I also freeze my left over cut up lemons in a freezer bag.

You can do this with all freezable left overs.

You will begin to come up with ideas of your own.

Saves time and money.

Just be sure to date them and use them in a timely manner.

Hope I have been helpful.

I know. Even a small can of tomato paste is a little more than you need for one recipe. You can remove the remainder from the can and freeze it for future use - yup, you can!

i always freeze it, spread it out on a piece of plastic wrap. That way when you only need a small portion of it all you have to do is break some off, it last forever in your freezer.

best thing I've found is to put a piece of plastic wrap in the can so that it sits right on the paste and then place the lid back in the can. squish down to make sure there is no air and it can last up to a week, max.

Freeze it.. But dont freeze it more than once! You can freeze it for over a year without problems of it going bad.

don't leave it in the can

when you open the can, the can is prone to harmful bacteria.

put it in something else and wrap it in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge
