I invited my surgeon for drinks to the bar of the hotel where I am staying, who should pay for the evening? (he's male and am a lady)

since you invited him, you would be the one to pay for the drinks. if he offers to be the gentleman and pick up the tab, then by all means allow him to do so. you could put up a small protest or offer to pay half, but most likely, considering his profession, he will do you the honor plus leave a sizable tip. that is how it was done in my day. in today's time though,,,well be prepared to shell out the cash and very thankful if he does the honorable thing.

I'm tempted to say, he should but to be safe - go Dutch. Unless he offers to pay the entire bill in which case you should politely accept; do not insist even though you invited him. Have fun!

Normally, the one who invited. But if the bill arrives, and he'd insist to pay for the bill, then let him.=)

You did the inviting....you pay......it's got nothing to do with gender. If however he offers to pay, then it's up to you to accept.
