For example, a liberal theologian explaining why the Bible is still God's sacred book, even though he's already admitted most of it's not true.

It's a tricky thing claiming infalibility for a book that was written during our intellectual infancy. I got painted into a corner once. Not due to outrageous belief systems, I actually did it - painted myself into a corner... and when the wife asked "what the hell is going on", I did the sensible thing. I told her the part of the floor I was standing on was not really a corner. I re-interpreted the situation. That's what it takes, pal. Ad-libbing on the fly. If religions can do it, so can I.

Depends on who you talk with. You only mention the one "liberal theologian" but what about the hundreds who do have supporting evidence to the contrary? Christianity has lots of well educated people within the ranks. For example, my brother in-law is a professor of nuclear physics and is far from being classed as a "stepping" over those "persuasive arguments" - that's for certain ! Should you elect to ask all of the right questions, you would receive all the correct answers (whether you would comprehend those very answers or not, is quite, another issue).
