It's all about equilibrium. Our body adjusts to our way of life. If for a period of time you had a routine, your body would balance itself to that routine. Push yourself over the limit and your body would try to adjust. If it can't adjust fast enough or can't adjust at all, your body will eventually start shutting itself down (e.g over exhaustion, over weight, under weight, etc).

What changed in your lifestyle since you broke up? Eating patterns perhaps? Less stress? More stress? Your body may have started to react to the change (whatever it is) and caused you to gain weight.

If you've been doing the same routine try switching it up a little. Try to go outside and walk for get the fresh air. Also, try finding a fitness buddy - someone you can confide in, and has similar fitness goals as you do. This extra motivation may be just what you need to get out of your plateau and get a fresh start on your single life!

are you eating late at nite to make up for the loss of your partner?
I broke up once and I ate at nite because that was the time we were together.
You may still be exercising, but if you have late nite binges, it's going to factor out your exercise. As you get older, it is harder to take off the excess, believe me....

What's your diet consist of. That's where I'd look first. Like what are you eating, what time of day are you eating, are you eating more, etc etc etc. For instance are you going out to eat more cause you are dating?
