and if I lose 40 pounds in 9 weeks doing it the healthy way.

would there be a difference in how my body looks? as in, would I look fatter if I did it the unhealthy way?

the thing is that you are never gona lose 40lbs in 9 weeks healthy - its healthy to lose 1-2lbs a week - if you are losing more its most likely water weight and muscle not fat which means you are slowing down your metabolism.
difference - unhealthy - you are gona gain it all back and will have slower metabolism
difference - healthy way you will see results and you will have more defined and toned muscles and really noticeable weight loss, unhealthy - its not all fat you are losing and might e.g. have skinny legs and big belly - its unpredictable.

You would not be able to lose 40 lbs. in 9 weeks doing it the healthy way. The maximum amount of weight you can lose safely is 2 lb. a week. That being said, if you lost 40 lbs. in 20 weeks the healthy way instead of in 9, you would look much better. When you try to lose weight too quickly, your body burns up your muscle for energy as well as the fat. You end up looking skinny but flabby because you have no tone left. Also if you lose weight the quick way, you will gain it all back plus more as soon as you start eating again. If you lose 40 pounds in nine weeks, most of that will be water and lean muscle and very little of it will be bodyfat. Starving oneself is a surefire way of retaining bodyfat and losing what good stuff you do have (lean muscle). Healthy weight loss, or the loss of bodyfat only, occurs at a maximum of 1-2 pounds per week through healthy nutrition, consistent diet and regular exercise. The exercise has to be intense enough to be effective as well. This is just how the body works universally, can't argue with biology.

Just look at people like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton; they're skinny but with no lean muscle and relatively high bodyfat percentage. As mentioned above, if you take more time and lose it healthily, you'll look tons better.

Your body would look the same, at least for a little while. The main reason to loose weight the healthy way is to keep the weight off. Ideally 1-3lbs per week is perfect as it allows your hypothalamus to recalibrate to your new weight, if you loose it too fast your brain sees it as unnatural and tries to get back to your original weight by storing the food you eat.

Also, when you eat very little (regardless of how much fat you have) your body views it as starving, so, when you finally do start eating normally again your body will store as much as possible to save up for the next bout of starvation that might come along.

To loose weight reduce caloric intake to a level below caloric demand.

Well, there are two areas where there is fat stored in our body, one is as we know under the skin and the other is around the organs. If we are on a diet, we thin down because the fat under the skin is utilized and not the fat of the organ...which is unhealthy. Doing exercise however melts fats in both the areas....and of course this is healthy

weight loss involves the loss of some muscle, which is why you must do aerobic and anaerobic exercises to keep toned. Fat loss is just that... the loss of FAT!
