If you just trim your hair, just a 1/4 inch will do, it doesn't have to be much at all.
On a new moon, preferably a water new moon it will grow faster.

Be very careful when combing or brushing your hair when it's wet and use a good conditioner. Also, try to avoid the hair dryer as much as possible. This will keep your hair in good condition. You will have to be patient and get tiny trims once in a while but after a year it should be much longer When I say a tiny trim, I do mean just that..don't let a hairdresser cut off an inch...just even it out, maybe 1/4 inch every 4 months or so. Hair does not grow even and only cut the bottom, let layers grow out. If your hair is really short, you'll suffer awhile, use gels, cute pins anything to keep it looking nice in the awkward stage. And wait....lol

I've had hair down to waist almost all of my life and NOBODY believes me how I got it that long...I just never cut. The most I (I wouldn't let anyone touch my hair) would trim it was like an inch or two once a year or so.That's it. That and I used to air dry my hair for many years.
I recently (and sadly) had to cut my hair past my shoulders (it's about 2-3 inches above my elbows) because blow drying it over the years had ruined it. So the tips were frayed, dried and lighter in color and just a mess.
I ALWAYS use conditioner which I let sit in my hair for 3-5 minutes before I rinse it out. I've been using this expensive Japanese shampoo and conditioner on and off for over a year and I think it's great. It's called Komenuka Bijin.

the best way to get your hair longer is to make sure it is healthy. Sorry there isn't an instant growth shampoo. But just make sure that you refrain from dryer your hair everyday and avoid the straightener as much as possible. I also suggest that you do get a trim just to cut off the split ends. With out a trim every few months the ends break off and it isn't any longer. You should also buy a leave in conditioner or some product that reduces split ends. A detangler also can help so you don't damage your hair when brushing.

Conditioning ALOT works and using leave in conditioners. But actually, even just cutting your hair a 1/2 inch really quickens the growth and makes your hair alot healthier too. You should trim every other month for really fast results.

Just let it grow and about once a month trim it a tiny bit; the trimming will actually help your hair grow faster.
