Hi
I rescued a beautiful Chocolate Point Siamese and he was a stray for a long time. It is a good idea to take him to the vet as he may have worms. He was probably living off mice and birds and they will get worms.
You usually only need to do this once a year and you can deworm him yourself, but for the first time I would take him to the vet just to be sure he doesn't have heartworms or something. These can be treated, so it is good to take him in.
It is good to get him vaccinated for all the diseases as he will still continue to be an outside cat and may get into a fight with another cat or being around other cats. There are alot of feline diseases.
They will be able to tell you his approx. age too and if there are any other problems, like breathing or heart or anything you can't see...
If he stays around he will become the best pet ever. I have rescued quite a few cats and dogs and they were always the best and seemed so appreciative to be loved, even cats!!!

Even if the cat continues to live on the street some vaccinations are better than none at all. If you can it would be best to have the cat combo tested. This is a quick test done in the vet clinic for common diseases that are easily spread by cats. If the tests are negative then you should vacinate the cats. You should also have him neutered as soon as possible it will decrease fighting and increase his chances of living a long and healthy life, in your home or on the street.

I think its really great that you picked up a cat from the street and are taking care of it too. There is no harm in giving it the vaccine if you plan on keepin it cos it can only help the little thing. Keep up the taking care part. Im sure you're a great person.

That is very nice of you helping a cat that is off the street. Take the cat to the vet and get her shots and checked over so she can be a healthy cat.

Definitely take him to the vet! It will protect him from disease.
If he is outside... rabies and luekemia are a must! he may also have worms/fleas...
If you can, consider moving him inside to become a house cat? If not, at least get him shots... It's a very loving thing to do.
My baby boy was a stray and I used to let him stay outside because he loves to climb trees, be in the sun and lay in the grass... He now lives inside and it's only because I want him to live a long healthy life and there are so many stray/ outdoor cats in my neighborhood that I want to protect him from fights and disease. I take him out on occassion so he can at least eat some grass feel the sun and lay on the earth... but his tree climbing days are over! =) Im an over protective mommy!

Getting the cat off the street will certainly be a lot better for him. I have two rescue cats. Get the shots, take care of it, and never, ever let it outside. My cats have never been out since I have had them unless I was holding them or they were on a leash.

I feed a feral colony daily. The only unspayed mother had kittens. I was able to catch one, I took it home and kept it in the carrier overnight until I could take it to the vet the next day. It was not out of the carrier around my cats at all. Which was a good thing because once I took it to the vet and they ran some tests I found out it had Feline Aids which wasnt a good thing. I don't want to tell you what happened next.

Yes- take the cat to the vet.
I just rescued a stray mamma cat and her kittens- I took all to the vet to get checked. Mamma got her shots and will get another round on her follow up visit.
This will only help your cat, will do no harm, plus they can check her for parasites and other ailments. They will do blood work. You have a big heart like me- I wish you the best with your new little one. :-)

Yes take him to the Vet. Getting a check up and vacinated will help keep him healthy. Get him sterilized asap. Once I did that the Mom cat moved into my garage.
I had chased her around 2 years trying to get her spayed and vacinated. She was a stray and came to my house when pregnant. Then left before she was able to be spayed. Finally I got her all checked up and now she visits everyday and I feed her and she stays in the garage alot. Pretty good for a cat who wouldnt let me touch her before. Patience won her over.

I have done this several times so far. If your serious about this you should first have the vet test him for any chronic diseases (rabies, distemper, leukemia). If he ends up negative, then have him vaccinated. This shouldnt do any harm to the cat, and then you just need to keep up on the vaccinations.
