A lot of people in my area are doing gastric bypass. If she has lost a lot of weight suddenly, and she's not working out....I'll bet that it was gastric bypass!

People that are very overweight tend to lose weight more rapidly in the beginning than those of normal size. It is not uncommon for someone to do a lifestyle overhaul and start taking off the pounds very quickly, even without exercise in the beginning. People who are larger burn more calories per day than smaller people. When you incorporate exercise into this, even a little bit, you will see dramatic results. I personally have lost about 40lbs in the last 3 months, so it is not unreasonable for someone to lose 70lbs in 1 year. It just takes hard work and determination. My goal, set by my trainer, is 80lbs for the year!

A person would not have a gastric bypass to help them lose 70 pounds--surely! That type of medical intervention is for someone who desparately needs it (ie more seriously obese than that).
If it's been a year since you've seen her, its quite possible that she has changed her diet AND been exercising to help lose that weight.
If you don't feel you know her well enough to ask her how she lost her weight, how do you know she doesn't exercise?!
Ask her, she may be flattered you noticed and want to know.

Eating right, drinking lots of water, exercising and a positive attitude about weight loss does wonders!
But...Perhaps she joined Weight Watchers or some other diet program? Maybe she had surgery? Maybe she took diet pills either prescribed or OTC?
What ever it was that caused her to lose so much weight.. It is quite an accomplishment and you should commend her! Losing weight is hard work. Be happy for her! =)

She could have exercised a lot, gotten a gastric bypass, gotten her stomach stapled, or gotten liposuction. All are ways of losing weight. But most likely she took up running and/or cut down on how much food she was eating.

Not everyone that loses weight has had drastic surgery. I lost 65 pounds one summer by changing my diet, and exercising a LOT. I worked on a golf course and I was always moving and sweating.

Some people just drop it like it is nothing. When I started to lose, I lost 10 lbs in the first week. Also, there is the chance she had work done, too.

if she has lost weight she probably wanted to so maybe she wouldn't care if you asked. Usually its only the people who did it the wrong way who are funny about it. or the ones who list it through drugs. but just try to put it in nicer wording like You look great...what's your secret?
everyone worries that the people will get offended because you assume they will think oh you must have thought i was sooo fat before.. and yes that will come to their mind but you mean well.. you know that and they should know that you mean well too.

Gastric bypass surgery, stomach bands, stomach staples.
Even though she may have lost it without doing exercise, that isn't healthy. Exercise strengthens the heart. If you start exercising today, your body will thank you for it in the future.

People who plan their weekly meals tend to be more successful at losing weight than those who don’t. Plan your dishes to feature healthy carbs such as lovely potato and wholegrain pasta, greens and lean proteins, buy all the ingredients in advance and don’t be tempted you can eat out or order in.
