I let my dog go out in our back yard alone to "potty". My husband forgot to let her in one time and she was out there for about an hour and i want to make sure another dog didn't hook up with her especially since i plan to breed her.

People don't be ignorant. I am asking to be informed, not lectured about how horrible breeding is. I love my dog very much and simply want to share her offspring with others. Boxers do make great pets. To all of you who answered without criticizing, i send thanks. I found all of your info very informative.

When the female first goes in heat, she has a discharge. When the discharge lessens or stops & she's really swollen, she's ready to be bred. It's about the 10th day or so after her cycle starts. That's when the males will come around & she'll go looking.
If she gets hung up with a male, it can take seconds & she's pregnant. And each puppy can have a different dad that's why in a mixed breed unplanned litter, all the pups can look different. Another thing I learned when I bred my poodle is as soon as she's pregnant, she'll start going out of heat. So if it's only 12 or so days into the heat cycle & she goes out, she's pregnant. There is one more "old wives tale" you should know. If she has a mixed breed litter it does not ruin her for life. You can still breed her with another dog of the same breed to get a purebred litter. It's not good to breed them at every heat cycle, it's better to skip one than breed the next cycle. I hope this answers your questions.

First if you do not know these answers already you have no business breeding any dog. For your dog to conceive she would have had to be in heat. A ***** will only allow a male dog to breed her if she is in heat. The actual act of mating in dogs can take up to an hour or more but often can take less time. The majority of that time is spent when the knot on the dog's penis swells up inside of the ***** and they stand tied together until the penis returns to normal size.

Well, most dogs will "tie" for at least 10 minutes or more. Did you see other dogs in the yard? They can be pregnant by different males. Having a mixed litter won't affect her having purebred puppies in the future. Each litter is different.

Um if she was alone I don't think you have to worry about her being impregnated. Yes there can be more then one father, this won't affect your dog's next litter which can be purebreds.

BTW all you people always ranting on people who want to breed their pets, it's NONE OF YOUR FRIGGIN BUISNESS...damn...nosy people

Yes there can be multiple fathers, and from differnet breeds, you never know, whats worst is that if she is a pure bred and gets pregnant by another breed, she will always have the DNA from that other breed in her system, so if you try to breed her with another pure bred later on, you can still get mixes. Best to get her spayed now.

If she's in heat and in her second week, yes she can get pregnant by more than one male dog. Sorry;^(

Only takes once. Every stud in the neighborhood could breed her. Welcome to the wonderful world of backyard breeding!

If you don't already know the answer to these questions, why are you planning to breed her?

Get her spayed. The world doesn't need more puppies from people who don't know what they're doing.

It is impossible for any animal's babies to have more than 1 father per litter. If she is pregnant you will have to wait and see what the pups look like to see the father.
