Ok, so Im fed up. I live in the Dairy capitol of the WORLD.....but when I go to eat I rarely get butter. I get served Margerine. When I ask the waitress for butter, she points at the margerine and sais, this is the butter that we serve. I kindly say, THAT is Margerine. I would like butter please! She said that IS butter. So it goes like a Laurel and Hardy skit. Mabe silly to many of you...but I do NOT find Margerine to be interchangeable with butter. The difference in Chemicals alone is plastic verses moo moo cow. If I order a steak, I dont expect tofu.
Does this only drive ME mad? Its also the same with coffee. I dont drink it often, but when I ask for creamer, I expect somthing that came out of a cow. Not a powder factory. And I expect restaurant employees to know the difference!
Am I silly?

I like butter a helluva lot better too. I never buy that plastic crap. I have to admit though, in a restaurant I would probably just go ahead with the margarine because it's not THAT big a deal to me. My mom always served us Blue Bonnet when we were kids; I switched to butter as soon as I got out of the house, but that's probably why I can still tolerate the plasticene processed manufactured chemical hydrogenated soybean oil or whatever the hell it is. Even worse are those weird products like "I Can't Believe it's Not Butter!" What the hell is that crap? I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S EDIBLE is what it should be called.

I have had this problem, and asked for the manager...it is amazing how quick butter appears..at one very nice restaurant tho, I asked....the manager went to the kitchen said there was not a bit of real butter in the place, the chef came out...said he did not use butter
not one meal in the place went for less then 54.00 so for two with wine.and tip.our bill was close to 200.00...you think the chef could cook with real butter...we informed the manager that we would not be back..and also that a letter would appear in the paper. When I wrote my letter to editor..the feedback in print and online was huge. and the manager called and invited us back for a free meal..made with the real stuff as needed...
we did not go...we did however tell him we were sending our pastor and wife, and would like the treat to go to them. he agreed, the pastor got a great meal they could never afford, and I did not break my word we would not return...

I do notice a difference between the two ,but the issue never really bothers me since I like margerine better. I don't like butter because there's just something about the texture that makes me sick...so I guess I could see how your mirrored view point is somewhat legititmate. I made some butter in kindergarten one time as a class activity...dunno...just a fact

No, not silly. I get pissed about stuff like that too. Everything is so damned pre-fab anymore. Back when everything was real, people were healthier too, than today with everything made-up, so many diseases, like diabetes being so plentiful today, and cancer. From all the fake bullshit we have to consume today. Try going to the store and buying a pack of butter, doesn't taste like real butter either. I grew up on a farm in Maryland, I know what your saying.

I totally agree with you. I'd ask the waitress to check in the kitchen for real butter, or cream (at least milk) for your coffee. If she won't, then you could ask to speak to the manager. If they don't have real food in the kitchen either, then do you really want to eat there?
By the way, I have the same pet peeve about Maple syrup. I want REAL maple syrup on my pancakes, not high fruitose, artificially flavored god-knows-what.

Where exactly do you live? I live in California, I can find real butter at any grocery store and at any restaurant. But I do agree, butter is better. I don't eat margarine. It doesn't taste the same.

That does sound frustrating. Margarine is very unhealthy for you. It is made from trans fats-hydrogenated oils to make an unsaturated oil solid like butter. I heard though at least where i live, that they were trying to ban hydrogenated oils from restaurants. Those kind of oils are the worse for your health, worse than lard.

It's the same with a lot of things, if people accept things they don't want in place of what they do want, then this will happen more and more. If people got up the courage to walk out things would change.

No! A butter is a butter and a margarine is always a margarine. Maybe you have to find else where..... Here! A butter is a butter. :)
