No, you aren't a jerk. What she wants is to hold on to the relationship, by phone, text messaging, e-mail, letters, etc. Girls are multi-talented; they can do several things at a time. [comes in handy when they become moms]
Guys are not. They concentrate on one thing at a time. You, for instance, are going to college, to extend your education. Some day you'll be married and have a family to support. You need to prepare for the future. And you have to do what you have to do. You're being wise. Send her flowers or something with a sweet note, saying how sorry you are.

I don't think so. I am in a similar situation, but there are many states between us rather than schools. Sometimes it's really hard to be with someone that you never get to see, and it's easier to let them go than to keep holding on. I guess it just depends on how strong your relationship is. I've learned to cope and deal with it though, and we've been together for about 6 1/2 months now. Hopefully one day soon we won't have to deal with the distance issue anymore!

Yeah probably. Distance is only a big deal if YOU make it a big deal. My girlfriend lives 3 hours away and I'm prepared to make the effort to talk to her on the phone and see her whenever I can (and she comes up to see me too). Having said that, it also depends how mature you are, usually handling a long-distance relationship is a sign of maturity. If you really liked her - then her going to another school was probably a test of fate and comittment (I guess you failed that one). But someone else will come along - make sure you don't do the same thing when they have to go elsewhere!

no, you were not a jerk. You were simply ending something that you would have not been able to commit to, because distance prevented you from doing so. It is not anyones fault that you now both go to different schools.
Besides, absence makes the heart grow fonder of other people.

Obviously you didnt like her very much, otherwise you would of made it work regardless of the distance, so it worked out for the best. Not a jerk move, a smart move

no.. if you explained why you're breaking up with her then you're not.. however, if you've been together for years and you broke up with her just coz u go to different schools, she may think that there's a different reason thus think you're being a jerk.. =)
