panzer 1 : very small, and a turret a little offset from the center of the tank hull to the right and 2 machine guns . Also the road wheels the last 3 are connected by a metal profile
panzer 2 : a turret with a 20 mm gun and a machine gun first models had 5 road wheels with a leave suspension the last variants had 4 bigger road wheels
panzer 3 turret a 37 mm gun till a 50 mm gun the last versions had a 75 mm short gun like the early panzer 4 but the profile off the turret isn't the same
panzer 4 turret a short 75 mm gun latter on all the versions had a long 75 mm gun and extra armour around the turret
a very good give a way to make the different between a 3 and a 4 is to count the road wheels on one side
6 road wheels dived by 2 = panzer 3
8 road wheels dived by 2 = panzer 4

Check the turrets first.
The Panzer I has two machineguns. The Panzer II has a 20mm cannon and a machinegun. The Panzer III is initially equipped with a 37mm cannon and a machinegun then a 50mm later on of varying lengths. The last models were equiped with the stub-barrel (L/24) 75mm the early Panver IV's had.
More difficult is telling the difference between Panzer III and IV's later on. The quick/dirty way is still looking at the weapons. Panzer IV's were equipped with 75mm guns for the entire war starting with the early models' L/24 and progressing to the long-barreled 75mm's on the Panzer IVF2's and later. Early Panzer III's have skinnier 37mm and later 50mm guns, but later the Panzer IIIM's and N's had the 75mm L/24. These can be differentiated from IV's by the III's with L/24's having spaced armor skirting on the turret and hull while most IV's with the 75mm L/24 were destroyed or retrofitted with longer-barreled guns prior to the widespread use of skirting.

Panzer 1(weight 5,3 t) can be considered between a light tank(M3 stuart light tank weight was 12,5t) and tankette(for example italian L3(weight 3,5 t).
Panzer 1 was armend with 2 machine guns(7,92mm) in the early version and then with 1 machine gun and 1 Breda 20mm cannon....in the last developments also 45mm cannon were installed. Panzer 1 had only 2 men.
Panzer 2 was stilla a light tank, but not so light, its weight was 9,5 t, it had 3 members of the crew and was armed with a 20mm cannon and a 7.92mm machine gun since the early version.Panzer 2 was armored heavily than panzer 1, but its protection was still too weak for heavy weapons and also for anti-tank guns. so it soon became too weak to be used as a main battle tank, then it served as a recon tank till the end of the war.
Panzer 3 is considered the first modern tank, and it's a medium tank. It weighted about 22 t and the armament was usually a 50mm (in the J version 50mm/L60) and 2x 7.62 MG's.
I had 4 men of the crew.

The panzer 1 was more like an armored car as was the number 2. the 3 and 4 were heavier and packed a larger cannon. the 5 and 6 were heavy tanks mounting the 75 and 88 mm guns respectively.

The Panzer I was a machine gun carrier. The panzer I was armed with two 7.92mm machine guns. The panzer II was armed with a 20mm gun and 7.92 machine guns, but there were many subsequent versions, with different armaments. The panzer III a high velocity 50mm gun and was slightly larger. The panzer III was also subsequently upgraded until being superseded in production by the panzer IV, though it continued as an infantry support weapon.
