I am aware of what the United States really is, but it is a form of democracy. A true one would be impractical based on the number of issues to which we would be called to vote, so instead we elect officials (some of them, anyway...) to represent us.

lasuremartin: I believe the problem is that most of the people who say the country was founded by Christians are also inclined to say that we should think the way they did, which is in direct conflict with the type of government we have. Notice how Apostle Jeff said by Christians, FOR Christians. No, it was for everyone.
It doesn't really matter what the founding fathers were. We are our own country, not led by them unless we choose to be. Everything changes... after all, they broke away from the monarchy.

The absolute display of idiocy and ignorance that is spewed here makes me want to vomit. The United States was NOT founded by Christians? Are you serious? Ben Franklin was an atheist? Jefferson despised Christianity? That must be why the Declaration of Independence was nearly a copy of the Mecklenburg Declaration written by the Scotch-Irish Presbyterians more than a year before.
Sorry I didn't answer your question, but responded to the brain dead and uneducated dunderheads here. So, here it goes----Christianity in the Bible supports a socialist or communist type system, at least in theory. The constitutional republic that was set up by the founding fathers was based upon the structure of church government that evolved from the reformation, specifically Presbyterianism.

Yes Christianity is associated with democratic processes of the society, because we Christian can tolerate what the practices of other religions. But Ex. the Islam are very strict that if you couldn't be subservient they can punish you by something? Their ladies must wear a long veil which is required but being a Christian as long as it is a proper attire it doesn't matter. They pray 5 times a day, but we just go to Church once a week.I think democracy has no restricted rules for Christian to follow.Christians can have some fun too by having a fiestas in honor of their saints'name.

moreth: Great question. As a Christian, I would have to say "no". This is because democracy is a man-devised system. Although God employs this system to get the job done of "proclaiming the gospel to all nations", in this system, one can realize that democracy runs on votes. Should 51 % of the people in a democracy be corrupt, then, the "corrupt" popular vote is catered to by those seeking election or re-election. This has consequences in eroding the moral fiber of your country and therefore, places a country on course with eventual catastrophe. God has pre-planned all this, so He can get on with the job of achieving His Master Plan of a New Heaven and a New Earth, in spite of the ultimate break-down and errosion of democracy.

Well, they DO both basically result in leadership by an uneducated mob...so...kind of? Democracy is fine, but it needs the guidance of intelligent people, because popular does not always equal right, and there are some things that should NEVER be decided based on the opinions of the majority. (Especially if the majority are religious.) Without that, this democracy, America, is becoming too closely associated with Christianity.
Apostle Jeff: I'm really tired of hearing from people like you. Founded by Christians, for Christians? No it wasn't...and no, it wasn't. It was founded people who were quite opposed to Christianity, on freedom. Including freedom of religion (for christians? Yeah, you really sound like you're concerned about loss of freedom, there.) The nation and its government were not, and are not, supposed to associate with any religion. Learn a little bit, before you shoot your mouth off, would you? And I'd really like to hear what freedoms we're losing, by removing God from our country (somewhere he shouldn't have been in the first place). Are you losing your freedom to believe whatever stupidass thing you want? Your freedom to pray? Your freedom to speak your ill-informed mind, like you just did? Or are you (and Christianity) just losing religious dominance, and the freedom to force your religion and its policies on everyone else?

No. Christianity will eventually lead into a Theocracy with the
rule of Messiah in Jerusalem.
Democracy is an idea that was popular with the ancient
Greeks especially in Athens.

No. Democracy is a man system. A lot of Americans don't know that the US is actually a Republic, ie; a Democratic Republic.
FYI to the poster-'Ol Uncle Ben was a Deist or Theist. His phrase, "God helps those who help themselves" has been misquoted by many an American, atheist, Christian, Preachers and the like, to imply this is Biblical, which it is not. Ps 41:1-God helps the helpless.

No. Christianity had nothing to do with Democracy. Most Christians in history lived under Kings and other despots. Many still do. Democracy was created by the polytheist Greeks and continued briefly by the Romans - who, at the time, were also polytheists.

I'd associate Christianity with a Patriarchy. A dictatorship (or oligarchy) with one male at the the top (those special enough to be the leader of the flock). Or maybe, to make a more modern anology, I see it as a corporation, with a president and a board of directors.

Democracy is the best of all governments (freedom, votes, etc.), but it has weakness. People can put who they want, and not everyone may agree with that person in office. Christians know that one day the world will be a monarchy, with a single King. Christ will rule, but He will not be a tyrant or dictator. Everything will be perfect--no pain, no sin, nothing bad. www.gotquestions.org for everything about it all.

Yes because our Country, the USA, was founded by Christians, for Christians. We used the Bible as our basis and we involved God at every level. Right now, we are losing our Freedoms, such as freedom of Speech, because we are kicking God out of every aspect of our Life, Government, Schools. We are replacing Him with the religion of Atheism, Human Secularism, and Evolution. We worship the god of entertainment and the god of money by sacrificing our Children.
May we repent and turn to Jesus so that our Country will avoid the Judgments of God.
