I've notice that most conservative and liberals are against amnesty and want real immigration reform that will protect our borders. Is this our chance to come together in agreement since most of us don't want the big business conservatives to exploit these people for a source of cheap labor nor do we want the the left to exploit them to advance their social causes? We the people (both left and right) are closer to agreement on this issue than an issue in recent history. Should we not use this fact to our advantage?

The people of America have been so divided on so many issues, with the right and the left at each others throats. The politicians love it, they thrive on it, they build their careers on it. But, I have noticed a change lately.

I don't know if it is because we are now getting more information through Talk Radio and the Internet, or because the majority of Americans are against the amnesty. But, we are definitely starting to pay more attention to what is going on in Congress, and voicing our opinions, and we are beginning to sound like one voice. It is a voice of people who care more about their country, than a party. Maybe it's because We are fighting for our country, and so many lawmakers are trying to give it away. I think we are genuinely worried about where our country is headed, don't trust congress, or we are simply tired of not being represented. What ever the reason, it is good to be connected and in agreement with so many fellow Americans. I would love to see a united America. The old saying "United we stand, Divided we fall" , couldn't be more true, or more important, than it is today. It is time we United and took back America, while it is still ours. It is time our voices be heard, and if current house and senate members refuse to represent us, we must clear them out.

Remember, we still have the right to vote, and while we are still the majority, it is imperitive that we vote for people who put America and American citizens first!

For our current situation regarding the amnesty bill, we must call, we must email and we must protest until we become a roar too loud to be ignored. Don't go down without a fight!!

Well stated. Eisenhour successfully closed the border without a fence. Conservatives and even liberals want to close the border and are against rewarding lawbreakers again. Our politicians are going to repeat the amnesty we had under the otherwise great Reagan. Consider this. Our brightest people are limiting themselves to one or two kids so they can give them the education and attention they deserve. What is left of the American middle class is doing the same. The welfare crowd is stamping out babies like sausages. Ditto for those hard working but illegal and uneducated immigrants. A dwindling group of mostly white people is being told to pay the ever increasing bill. After WW2, europe's best and brightest fled the ravages of war and socialism to start a new life in America. Now we are restricting the bright people and bringing in uneducated people from south of our border and africa. The future does not look bright for America. We will see the day when latin majority border states will want to leave the union just as French speaking Quebec wants to leave Canada.

Well Elsie i don't know where to begin .Everything you say is so right that's why i left the UK . No other country welcomes immigrants like Britain she helps them make a new life for themselves and their families , and what does she get in return some people milking the system and are constantly complaining about their life in the UK. I worked in Alicante airport in Spain , everyday i spoke to families forced to leave their mother country because they feel they no longer belong in the country which they were born. How can this be right. Spain welcomes immigrants but thats where it stops if you cant support yourself you cant stay, theres no handing out Dole money, free housing or free health care. I noticed one of the answers said "please explain" well they need to start thinking what its like for the average family in the UK . As you said above if they dont like the way the Britain is , they can always go back to their own country . Well done Elsie for having the courage to say what most Britains are thinking.

I would say so, YES. We all need to join together and fight against the crap our "elected" officials are putting us through. Personally, I have a mentally disabled child who has recieved SSI for 3 years. Last month, they cut us off without much of a reason other than they're 'waiting for paystubs' that I send in every month. I think there's more to this story than they're admitting, and that they need my daughter's funds to give to others who don't even BELONG here.

Let's stick together, keep faxing, phoning and emailing officials and demand they deny any amnesty, deny any bills that would do anything unless it's building a HUGE fence on the border to mexico and sending ALL illegals deep within mexico to prevent easy re-entry.

This is totally the wrong issue to be a uniting force.

It's all about Iraq, folks. It's all about that dirty little war that Bushie and the boys are running. Immigration pales in comparison.

Illegal immigration has been going on for almost 100 years and hasn't ruined our country yet.

The Iraq war is ruining us, politically, financially, morally and in every manner that makes us what we are, land of the free and home of the brave.

Pick your battles.....pick your priorities.

In a year, the whole immigration nonsense will pass into history. Iraq will affect our country for generations.

NBC, Univision, NPR and the rest of the "mainstream" media will do everything in their power to prevent Americans from coming together to support the enforcement of our borders.

Republicans and Democrats are the same. Both will not only sell their mother for 30 pesos in silver but they will also send her COD (cash on delivery) in their desperation.

I'm curious how you've come to notice what most people think. Personally, I've never even met most people.

There are millions of people here illegally. Many of them have children who are American citizens. Most of them have jobs. A lot of those jobs are ones that have gone unfilled since we've started cracking down on the borders. There will be no solution to the border problem without the cooperation of the American government. A solution that's not supported by the Latino political lobby in the US is unlikely to get the support to pass. Both want amnesty as part of the solution. Without it, any kind of meaningful immigration refrom is unlikely to go anywhere.

I think its one of the better chances. A significant portion of the democratic senate voted no with the republicans on the bill. thats a start.
