This is Kaya. She's 2 years old, weighs about 50 lbs, and has medium length, fine, silky, sparkly hair with a little wave in it. She has freckles and these bizarre eyes- depending on the light they're either lavender or GREEN! I've never seen a dog with green eyes before. She points when she sees a small animal or bird. (I didn't teach her to do this) She's a rescue from the shelter I volunteer with but originally came from Kentucky. Best guess they had was Lab/Pointer. Now, I definitely see the lab- But Pointer? She doesn't have the jowls, her tail's not that long, and the silky hair and little, turned-up snout...my best guess was Lab/Brittany Spaniel. As I said, just curious...What do you guys think her heritage is?

Doesn't really matter to me...she's gorgeous and great and loved and spoiled outrageously!

I forgot to add that she has webbed feet-almost all the way to the toes. I know this to be a feature of labs...do any other breeds have it?

WOW! What a great project this has turned into...I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the answers. I just spent some time looking it up, and discovered that Brittany Spaniels are the only pointing spaniel breed... Now I'm really determined to find out what she is! Thanks, guys!
PS: I'm not picking the best 'til the very end- keep 'em coming!

Well, to tell the truth you will never know without spending a bunch of money for a DNA test.
My best guess is you are right. A Lab/Spaniel mix. Personally I do not see much close to a Beagle. Beagles ears are closer to the head and are longer. They have bigger eyes, that "sad sack" look.
She is a cutie! Almost as cute as my pups. :)

I know Newfoundlands also have webbed feet, but your little girl doesn't look like a Newfoundland.
I would have to agree with the shelter and say Lab/Pointer. If she was Brittany Spaniel, I think she'd be a little more dwarfed by now, and I would think her hair, mostly her ears, would be more curly than what it is. And you're right--such pretty eyes! You certainly found a beauty! :)
Certainly some kind of bird dog, though, judging from her actions, and definitely Lab thrown in there somewhere.

She looks to me like a mix between a Brittany Spaniel, a Beagle, and a Yellow Lab. She's beautiful!

Webbed feet are rarer in labs than you think-at least, that far, anyway. The webbing rarely extends beyond their first knuckle.
Those eyes and that face tell me she's a pointer... However, there could be some chessie retriever (chesepeake bay retriever) in there. Maybe flat coat.
If she was at ALL curly I'd suggest one of the water dogs or spaniels. (IE: Portugese water dog has that thick webbing like you're talking about) and it's still possible that the pointer simply cancels it out.
She is a sweet little girl, though. =)

Great eyes and beautiful color altogether a fine animal you have found there! Like you said, the main thing is that you love her... and needless to say, she loves you!

Could Kaya be a Norwegian Elk hound. We had one for years and the age and weight and hair are so similar but I could be off ;t;rack without personally seeing her. Our Sam never did "pointing"-get on the Internet or go to a library for a book on Dog Breeds and they have photos and descriptions and how to care for them. If she is a long haired dog-beware of summer heat and have a shady cool place and plenty of water for that size dog. Please never leave her in a car while you shop-heat goes way over 100 in a car and many dogs have died from it. We know you will lovingly take care of your precious. All our farm pets became our "children" besides our two real ones. they Love so unconditionally.

Oh my goodness, she is adorable. I recently rescued a lab mix who looks much like her, but he is a lot bigger. We can't figure out what he is either. Kaya looks to me like a lab with some kind of terrior in her. My family also has another lab who is full-bread and he has green eyes! I had never come across another dog with green eyes! Hmm.
All in all, it's amazing that you rescued her. Good luck with finding out what she is!

I can see a little Brittany in her.....even possibly a beagle. Or, how about a cattle dog? She's really cute!

gorgeous dogs... My first wager may well be Boxer mixed with in step with probability Boston Terrier. She has the markings and a few facial advantageous aspects of a Boxer, and her eyes and in step with probability the form of her face is slightly Boston Terrier-ish. My 2nd wager may well be some thing alongside the lines of a Boxer/Beagle combination. She definitely looks to have Boxer in her, and the Beagle is probably a risk...yet i think my first wager may well be Boxer and Boston Terrier. appropriate desires!
