Rape is to take by force. It is generally used when referring to a sexual attack, but is loosely used to describe other things i.e. "I was raped in the Stock Market" meaning a heavy lose or " How did you do at the card game last night"......"I was raped".

Here is how the State of Missouri defines rape:

566.030. 1. A person commits the crime of forcible rape if such person has sexual intercourse with another person by the use of forcible compulsion. Forcible compulsion includes the use of a substance administered without a victim's knowledge or consent which renders the victim physically or mentally impaired so as to be incapable of making an informed consent to sexual intercourse.

What is sexual intercourse?

(4) "Sexual intercourse", any penetration, however slight, of the female sex organ by the male sex organ, whether or not an emission results.

Oral or anal rape are covered by forcible sodomy laws and carry the same penalties:

566.060. 1. A person commits the crime of forcible sodomy if such person has deviate sexual intercourse with another person by the use of forcible compulsion. Forcible compulsion includes the use of a substance administered without a victim's knowledge or consent which renders the victim physically or mentally impaired so as to be incapable of making an informed consent to sexual intercourse.

(1) "Deviate sexual intercourse", any act involving the genitals of one person and the hand, mouth, tongue, or anus of another person or a sexual act involving the penetration, however slight, of the male or female sex organ or the anus by a finger, instrument or object done for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of any person or for the purpose of terrorizing the victim;

Elements vary from state to state, but the basic five elements that are necessary for it to be a rape (as opposed to a kidnapping and sexual assualt combo) are:
"penetration, force and resistance, nonconsent, absence of a spousal relationship (the marital exemption), and the state of mind (mens rea) or intention of the suspect."

If no penetration exists, it may be merely "aggravated sexual assualt."
If confinement or transported elements exist, it gets bumped up to kidnapping.
The spousal realtionship is an exception but doesn't always apply.
For a closer examination on what terms such as "penetration" include (ex. does that mean a finger or a....) you must look to your state's case law.

Forcing someone to have sex. What the other answerer described about battery for sexual purposes would probably be more aptly be describing sexual assault.
