I am on 3 new meds that make me feel very shakey and dizzy in the morning when I wake up. These meds are an anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxer for my back and neck and an anti-depressant for post partum symptoms. Today my doctor told me to drink a cup of coffee in the morning to balance out the effects of the meds and also not to drink fruit juices such as apple juice or sweet juices. He also told me to switch around the times that I take my meds and skip days on the anti-inflammatory. Should I listen to my doctors recommendations and has anyone experienced anything like this before with medication after pregnancy? I find it strange to be told to drink coffee and not fruit juices.

The meds that I am on are skelaxin (muscle relaxer), Cymbalta (anti- depressant) Nabumetone (anti inflammatory). I have switched the times in which I started taking the meds. I feel a little better but still a little confused on my doctors advice.

I would just tell you that some fruit juices can cause certain medications to become toxic. You didn't say which medications you are on, just what they are suppose to do so I cant really say if the meds you are on are in this category. If you feel unsure I would absolutely get a second opinion on the matter. I believe most insurance companies have to cover a second opinion. I wouldn't stop taking any of the medications (meaning take them the way your doctor has suggested) without talking to your doctor first or getting that second opinion though. Hope that helps.

Trust between Dr. & patient plays a part in the recuperation process. Ask your Dr. the reason behind the recommendations;ei, coffee and not fruit juices...and afterwards if you still doubt the advice, find a Doctor who will discuss with you reasons for the medications. I just hope you aren't given medicines which cures the side effect of another medecine etc. etc.

If you bothered to get the prescriptions filled, and are working with your doctor, you need to listen to what he tells you. Doctors are human, and can make mistakes. In your situation, based SOLELY on what you've told us, it sounds like you may not be 100% comfortable with a chemical solution. Also, are you breast feeding? That could affect the medication choices (I assume you are not). It really sounds like you are unhappy with the 'less than perfect' results from the medication. Or there are other issues that you're not discussing with your doctor. If you don't give your doctor all the information, your doctor can give you wrong advice with the best of intentions and can feel that he's right, BASED ON WHAT YOU TOLD HIM/HER.
If you are not comfortable with your doctor, change the doctor. Or, at least get a second opinion from someone recommended to you (from a friend or other trusted source)

Last time the doctor did this to me, she didn't say anything or give any warning, just whipped out the stethoscope and put it down my top (I'm a girl too). I was just like what the?! and she was just sat there counting my heart rate lol. So I guess the stethoscope has to be against your skin, but you don't have to take off your top.

LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR. You trusted him to prescribe the meds. He knows what he is doing, keep a journal, track the changes and share with him at your next visit. You might be surprised to find out that he really does know what he is talking about.

Listening to doctors is always a smart decision to make. Though, it may also be smart to take a second opinion from someone else who is informed on the medication you may be taking. hopefully you can get things settled.
let me know~ :)

Yes, listen to your doctor. The sugar in the juices is causing spikes in your energy levels. The coffee is to perk you up, so decaf will not do it.

I think you should listen to your doctor over a bunch of Yahoo Answerers who don't know enough about your medical condition and medications to give advice. If you are questioning your doctor's instructions, ask him about what you don't understand.

the acids in fruit juices can affect some meds. (like rendering BC pills ineffective)...the caffine in coffee 'may' make you feel calmer (like having ADHD and taking 'speed' to calm down).
www.webmd.com and read up on your drugs and their side effects.
