On the way to San diego is Legoland. Would be fun for a young person. Wild Animal Park, Sea World. Around LA there is Universal Studios, Warner Studios, Farmers Market 3rd and Fairfax...Six Flags, Miniature Golf, Knotts Berry Farm, Pirate Adventure, Medevil Times. Across from Pirate Adventure and Medevil Times are lots of other fun things to do. There a fun restaurant called: Po' Folks.

I was just in your area, visiting LA. We live in San Diego now and driving back down here we stopped in San Clemente, a beautiful little beach town with lots of shops and restaurants. You could enjoy "getting away" and doing something different. Just being with the fam.
You could also come down here to San Diego, there are a ton of things to do. Coronado Island is beautiful with a gorgeous beach. There's the San Diego Zoo which you could totally make a day of. There's also the Old Town Trolley Tours that take you to almost every big attraction in San Diego.
La Jolla is another cool little beach town here, really fun with shopping, little cafes, awesome natural coves and even a seal nursery on the beach where the seals have their babies....the list goes on and on...

It may be a little too late, but how about Santa Monica Pier?

Water and family fun.

Enjoy your youth while you can.
