GREETINGS, how about buying her a book on kitten care and saying "in honor of your new kitten I thought you'd like this" then act really interested in the book and wanting to look at it together where you can subtly read out sections like on the bathing of cats, eating, drinking, ect.

The kitten is 9 or 10 weeks old? The kitten is ok to live outside as long as it's familiar with it's surroundings and knows were to hide if its in danger. It's alright to bath the kitten with human shampoo as long as she doesn't over do it but she does need to get some cat shampoo because with the kitten living outside the cat shampoo can help fight off fleas and ticks. The kitten is to young for a flea collar. She needs to find some kind of water bowl that she can fill up with water and leave where the kitten can get to it at ALL times.
Oh, has she tried to house train the kitten?

I'm sorry to say but your friend is abusing the kitten and as the kitten grows up it will become Ferrel (become wild) you need to call the humane society and either have them come and get the kitten or you take the kitten and keep it or take it to the humane society yourself.. the reason the other cat ran away is because of the abuse your friend was giving it. where are your friends parents in all this?? tell her parents that she isnt taking care of the kitten, have the parents step in and teach your friend how to take care of a cat. if the parents are keeping the cat outside as well then the cat needs to be taken out of that home. also, you CAN give a cat a bath with human shampoo, but it has to have a conditioner in it and not have to much perfume. if you live in massachusetts, I WILL take the kitten!!! contact me and let me know what happens to that kitten please!
Sincerely, Jeff

Well, I think your friend doesn't deserve a pet, I mean she is clueless! No offense! I think the living outside is fine though, unless there are really big dogs or something, or your friend doesn't have a fence up and it could get ran over. She should really get cat shampoo though! I have heard of using dawn dishwashing liquid soap, and that's about it that will go on CATS, and that's just to kill fleas. And as for the milk situation, I really hope she's giving it water! Hope this helps! -Oh, and I even feel bad for the poor precious baby kitty!

You know this really makes me angry and sad. There area some people in this world who shouldn't have pets. I wonder if getting her a pet care book would help. I have my doubts but then I'm cynical as the day is long.
I wouldn't hesitate to phone the Humane Society
This kitten deserves a hell of a lot better than what its getting.
I know a person who would not hesitate to march in there and grab the kitten from her and her parents.
Do the right thing by this kitten. So what if she gets pissed off at you.

What's with the water thing? Humans need water, so do animals. Human shampoo is fine for cats, (unless they have fleas) just make sure it's not one that will dry out the skin. The kitten is fine outside, cats have been outside much longer than we have had them for pets.

this kitten needs a different home and if the humane society is involved - it may not get any home at all (put to sleep) there are just too many kittens and cats right now cause it is kitten season, take the kitten yourself or find someone who wants it - I am in california and I would take it too if you live near me. Email me if you want to do that res1hnyo@verizon.net
Oh, yes tell your friend until her and her parents learn to take proper care of a kitten - they shouldnt have one - period!
No book is going to work if her parents arent interested in letting it live inside.

Make an anoymonus phone call to the human society or local pound or no kill shelter. Give them here address but not your name. This is animal abuse, she obviously doesn't know how to care for the kitty, and the humane thing to do is let them investigate this matter. They can give her advice and check up on the cat to see if it is progressing the way it should. I know this is your best friend, but for the baby's sake get some help before it dies of neglect.

Your friend certainly doesn't know how to care for a kitten. Do you really want this person for a friend? She doesn't want your advice, she doesn't listen.

Be an advocate for the kitten. Either get your local animal rescue involved (by reporting abuse) or ask your parents to speak to her parents. Something really needs to be done!

that's weird. this sounds like another case of good intentions with the wrong ideas. and when you say got, i wonder if it mean bought or got for free. people are more likely to take care of things they had to pay for. tell her if she really loved it she should give it to a different owner who will take better care of it. do not suggest yourself. the kitten should also be eating soft kitten food soon. it can't survive without protein.
