I find many Christians so addicted to god that they forget about the "real" world and their friends and family. They use anything they can to justify their addiction.

Maybe god should be categorized as an illegal substance. Thoughts?

It seems to me that people either with no outside life of their own or people with addictive personalities and characteristics could very well go overboard on religion.
I do agree, Religion is the opiate of the masses!
Regardless if they are trying to score points or over compensating for what they consider a shameful past....

I think the answer is that we should all be able to seek balance in our lives. That means staying centered, in the middle of the road, per se, so as not to go to extremes in either direction, but merely be a "part of"

Just a thought!

First off, Christian, Muslim, Jew, Wicca, etc., all have there own version of God or a God. Religion is very personal and has to be internalized or whats the point of faith. Religion itself is addictive if you find one you can put all of yourself into. I found mine and I certainly would never judge anyone for theirs of the way the let it consume themselves.
And I would never categorize it as an illegal substance.

You must understand that addiction to the God and addiction to the drug are two different things. You should not combine both in one element. Addiction to God will bring more benefit for the people, especially for create a good generation but addiction to the drug will bring more disaster for the people. God is 'natural' but drug is 'not natural' because made by 'human'.. God is 'live' but drug is 'not live.' Hope you don't categorized God as a 'drug.'

The more I frequent these pages the more I am amazed about how little people know or think they know about God and Religion in general. God is not a drug. God is a state of being and mind-set in equilibrium with reality and yourself. God is a state of truth or spirit that would like to dominate your being. If you don't like truth, then God has a probem reaching you. Either you know the difference between truth and a lie or not. But that is only a start to even recognising God. If that is a drug, flood the Nation with it. Simplistic, perhaps, but if my answer is stupid, consider your question.

Excessive religious fanatacism can become addictive and problematic if other resposibilities of life are neglected as the result. Too much of anything is not good. A well balanced lifestyle has no excessive qualities to it.

I'm sure many religious nutz will disagree about this and say something like "my cup runneth over" or "drunken on the Holy Spirit" as a type of coverup to hide the denial they are in.

I would like to know how these people forget about their friends and family, and specifically how are they demonstrating the "addiction".
Christians should be helping and caring for others- but not at the expense of their family responsibilities.
You should be careful of what you say, you don't want to live with regrets. Your ideas may change some day.

God is a Consuming Fire. God delivered me from all of my addictions, fears, and depression, and He has replaced it with the Holy Ghost. Now I get high off the "Real World". I see God answer my prayers and see myself and others receive God's Favor and Miracles! How AWESOME and Mighty is God. He is my Father and My Father and I are one. He has replaced my lost and tormented spirit and He has gave me Himself. There is Hope, Power, Joy, Love, Peace, and Eternal life in Him. I have never been more happier or more sane in all my life. I enjoy serving others and bringing them salvation through Jesus my Lord. My Life is an exciting adventure, now that the Holy Ghost has entered my life. I admit that I am addicted to Jesus. I love Him with all of my heart, body, and soul. I owe Him everything because He is worthy of all honor and praise. He has brought me life and life more abundantly. He is my King and He has adopted me into His Family because I have turned from my sins and I have received Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Then He manifested Himself to me with signs, wonders, and miracles. I testify that I have seen Him and I have heard Him and that He lives in the hearts of all who have accepted God's offer of eternal life through His Son.

Religion, like drugs, are a personal choice. Some choose to be more "addicted" than others. Users, [chuckle]
